Apparently, the new pope is not that cool, a priest just was expelled from active clergy for being a freemason. Demotion was effected by the bishop, but it seems he asked the Vatican first.

Depends, the pope usually mentions it when he invokes the infallibility clause.. but in this case, either he's a douche who didn't have the balls to correct his mistake himself, or the rev is a douche in sore need of excommunication and relagation to <papua New Guinea, and no coming back until you poach a couple thousands from the evangelics.

The practical upshot of what he said was: be a good person, you don't have to be a Catholic, it's all good.
Which just flushed centuries of authoritarian dogma. However, he's still on record as being very anti-gay, so it's only half-good. Hardly matters, I'm not going back. Still, I appreciate the breath of fresh air after 35 years of hardline blathering.
