I don't mind, I know it's true - but then I'm not really a believer, I'm a fantasist. And actually I've mostly stopped that now as well.Pappa wrote: The categorising of religious belief as a mind virus.
Ditto. The suggestion that their religion is "just a belief".
I really really reeally want to go back in time all magically like, and find out teh trute about this. It would be awesome to meet the guy that started it all off, if he did exist, and make some proper historical recordings of what actually happened.Saying Jesus might not even have existed.
Should I be posting in the "Serious Stuff" section While drinking?

Mathew 6:6
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Why atheism itself is offensive! Because you live one short life and all is meaningless! And we kill babies.

Undermining the idea that they're going to be accepted into heaven in the afterlife. Casting doubts on the notion that they'll be rewarded for their entire belief system, and exposing them to the idea that we'll all end up in the same place regardless of faith or lack thereof, is like kicking at the a center pole that holds the whole tent up.

Seriously. Having to tip-toe around certain people who can't see beyond their own indoctrination ...
Yup, that's the plain truth alright. I'd be the worst in the world if I took that tack with certain people, yet they're free do moralise and preach.Ian wrote:Undermining the idea that they're going to be accepted into heaven in the afterlife. Re: Things believers find most offensive...
Of course, one can look on the bright side and realise that many believers have been "forced" to become more "tolerant". Sunday shopping? Ready availability of contraceptives? Just about any form of blasphemy you can think of?*
