And when was the last time labour won with a left wing leader?
A very long time ago, but I think the layman is going to crave more equality politics in five years to come after the Tory government.
People said that after Thatcher's reign but John Major still won the election in '92, it took Tony Blair to bring Labour back to power.

Saw Ed this morning on AM. Seemed ok, didnt seem too radical. However I cant see that he will be able to shake the accursation that his soul is owned by UNITE. The tory media machine will have a field day next GE

He doesnt need to be "in their pocket", just needs to look like he is.

A true pirate would have simply laughed, killed them, travelled to their home town, claimed their women as his own and plundered his harbour (see: refuge) for treasure and riches.

He doesn't 'need to be' nor 'appear to be' because, at least as local newspapers report, he was elected without their support (or, at least, the majority). To appear, or pretend, to be would be to ignore the reality of his ascension.

Mediocrity drips from Ed Milliband.

It is shocking that the best the party of Hardie and Bevan can come up with is a wet little amateur debating society toerag.

Mediocrity? I thought that was a necessary for all politicians? To be completely and utterly unremarkable, and thus unworthy, of the position they had been given?

the pirate is a NPC from one of the versions of the Original Adventure Game, text based on DEC PDP computers from the 1970s. Here is the only link I could find on a quick scan.
edit: better link

on the subject:
Cameron slips a tackle, looks and pass square to Osborne in the centre of midfield. Osborne, pivot and slams it in to the top corner, Ohhhhh he was facing the wrong way and has scored from fully 45 yards into his own goal. The Tory Heartland supports are stunned by this ridiclulously unfair TAXtics.

Where a family earning 44K lose the child allowance, whilst some earning 80K+ can keep theirs. In some circumstance, employees on the border of 44k, will go to the employer and ask for a small pay cut, to preserve thier alownace if they cant do it via a salary sacrifice. Expect salary sacrifice to be big thing in the near future.

Now we will see whether Ed can cut the mustard. he has a golden oppotunity to badly hurt the torieson the home ground, the middle classes.

PDP-11 for prime minister!

It could probably do a better job
In the best laid plans of history lie the ruins of the past
And a chronicle of suffering shows the mythic pall they cast
To believe is true religion, but to see is truth at last
Oh no, too late to hold a trial, time doesn't wait for the watchmaker's dial
