Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I don't see it as a win for muslims by stepping down. In fact, this has placed the ball into muslims court to see what gesture of "acts towards peace" will they do. If they do not move the location of the mosque, they will appear even more insensitive and cruel. The pastor in Florida will look like the hero and they will look like the bully on the street.

I read somewhere that he is a christian on the surface for political reasons only...

Fairly common, I suspect...
Well if you read it somewhere it must be true...

Seriously, Obama is a christian nothing he's said or done has ever shown him to be an atheist.

Someone correct me if this is wrong - but I am sure I heard/read recently that in order to run for office in the US you have to have a religion?
Nope, but the only way to win is to be a christian.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

I think that if you're going to have a burn the Koran day, you should not limit it to the Koran. That seems stupid to me. You should burn all kinds of religious books that exist in abundance around the world. And you should do it ceremoniously. You have one big bonfire with the books, and you take one from each direction of faith and toss it on with a little speech. Perhaps an excerpt from one of the stupidet parts of that particular faith direction.

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

"No religious test is required to run for office..." is in our constitution.

However, Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas all have wording in their constitutions that you can be disqualified from public office if you deny the existence of a supreme being.
Tennessee, Article 9, Section 2:

No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state.
Texas, Article 1, Section 4:

No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.
Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~

However in cases where this arises the US Constitution always trumps state constitutions. So if a state has a law in their constitution that goes against the us constitution that law isn't valid.

But does it have to be taken to the Supreme Court for that to be enforced?

Sometimes, a lot of times the courts at the city, county, or state level are able to take care of it.
