Don't worry. Steam is one of the best, longest running, most successful online distributors of games. It was created by Valve, the guys who made Half-life, so they could sell Half life 2 online while avoiding piracy. They now publish and distribute about a thousand games - all genres, from indie games to old classics (late 90's ish) and of course loads of big shiny new games too.Animavore wrote:Ugh. Once you have an account you can re-download any games you buy on to any computer (though they can only be played on one computer at a time). They have hundreds of free demos you can easily download and play. The games are usually sold recommended retail price but once or twice a week they do massive deals for a few days where they put a particular selection of games at half price or something (or in this case for free!). There's also a huge steam community and steam comes with friends lists and messaging and everything.
If there is a catch, it's that you need to log in before playing your games, there is an off-line mode but steam often has to update itself, so it can cause problems if you have bad internet connection.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
