Re: The UK election thread
Thought it went less well than the first one. Too much easy point scoring and bickering and not enough on policy.
Switched off as a result.

Re: The UK election thread
Brown steamrollered this debate, Cameron looked like he wanted to throw in the towel at the end.
Cameron used the Pope question to suck up to religious types, while the other two were unequivocal in their opposition to the Pope's views. I actually disagree with some of the secular groups denying his freedom of movement, which doesn't seem to have any rational basis.

The secular groups aren't saying he can't come to Britain, they're saying the tax payer shouldn't pay for it.Wasted Tourist wrote:Brown steamrollered this debate, Cameron looked like he wanted to throw in the towel at the end.

Why? Because his place of work is loaded? Were the secular groups complaining with the wealthy author Salman Rushdie had tax funded protection for his freedoms?

Well I agree, but there isn't a case for either men's freedom to be compromised, and the law and government should protect that freedom by applying universal rules, rules apply to everyone, regardless of whether or not you happen to disagree with them , which is really what this whole shebang is about.RuleBritannia wrote:Salman Rushdie is British citizen who had fatwā issued aginst is life, it's not even close to a comparison.Wasted Tourist wrote:RuleBritannia wrote:The secular groups aren't saying he can't come to Britain, they're saying the tax payer shouldn't pay for it.Wasted Tourist wrote:Brown steamrollered this debate, Cameron looked like he wanted to throw in the towel at the end.

What freedoms? No one is saying that the pope can't come here.Wasted Tourist wrote:Well I agree, but there isn't a case for either men's freedom to be compromised, and the law and government should protect that freedom by applying universal rules, rules apply to everyone, regardless of whether or not you happen to disagree with them , which is really what this whole shebang is about.RuleBritannia wrote:Salman Rushdie is British citizen who had fatwā issued aginst is life, it's not even close to a comparison.Wasted Tourist wrote:RuleBritannia wrote:The secular groups aren't saying he can't come to Britain, they're saying the tax payer shouldn't pay for it.Wasted Tourist wrote:Brown steamrollered this debate, Cameron looked like he wanted to throw in the towel at the end.

If you want to know the election results but don't want to watch the boring news channels, you can watch Channel 4's Alternate Election Night.

Re: The UK election thread
Just seen a party election broadcast from the BNP.
Mind you I do agree with them about bringing our troops back, though I suspect for different reasons.
