A challenge... to believe in fairies!

Post by Pappa » Sun Nov 08, 2009 12:03 pm

We've all heard and possibly used the argument, "I don't believe in god for the same reasons I don't believe in fairies". Generally, many of us find belief in the divine to be laughable when analysed, though the majority of the population do not. How though, do they feel about belief in fairies?

A challenge for you all...

Next time a social opportunity presents itself (without appearing contrived), slip into conversation that you have fairies at the bottom of your garden, or that their are fairies living in the woods near your house, etc.. Say it with conviction and even argue your point if you need to. Then see what the reactions you get are like.

I'm going to try this as soon as I get chance.

I have homosexuals at the bottom of my garden too. I have to take the brush to them every morning.

I can sometimes really see homosexuals, and even hear them talking to me. Sometimes they almost convince me that I am the Chosen One. But then they tell me what I was chosen to do, and I politely excuse myself.

I'll tell them:

Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it
I tell you no lies
Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it
with my own two eyes

Surely that will convince them? :hehe:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Better fairies at the bottom of one's garden than fairies at the garden of one's bottom... unless you're into that sort of thing. :levi:

I live near a Christian conference center, and the streets all around this private gated community have Bible verse posted everywhere. In protest I posted the Douglas Adams quote on a tree on my property. Most of the people that walk by are Christians visiting the center, or are retired. Some have asked about it. I start off by telling them, with conviction I have seen fairies at the bottom of my garden and it's perposterous to suggest none exist as I have seen them. When they look at me like I'm a crazy person, I explain that I am an atheist and don't believe in God any more than I believe in fairies, and that I am making a statement of my own along side the bible verses that are posted everywhere. So far I haven't had any takers on a deeper conversation, but I hope I'm provoking something. ;)

I'm hoping to try out the fairies one and keep a straight face long enough for them to believe me. I find that if I tell religious people I am a Pastafarian, they often get angry because they feel the whole concept of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is actively insulting and taking the piss out of them and their beliefs... it's not, but that's what they always seem to think. I figured the fairy tack might be less provocative, yet offer up the same point.

As I never tire of reminding people- wishing that something exists because it would be nice- doesn't mean that it actually exists!
