It’ll really make you crazy when you consider how the Republican Party has sold itself forever…turns out they just loved scolding folks, they never really thought much about decorum etc… :sigh:
The Conservative Party in the UK have succumbed to the dead-end of terminal-online-ness and culture-war incoherency. The current Labour govt are going the same way and will join the Tories in the doldrums at the next general election. Farage's Reform are making the running and have won the Right, but although they're waiting in the wings they're doomed to failure too - because none of the 'popular' parties are able to address the underlying structural issues we're all dealing with. Their donors won't allow it. Blaming lefties, foreigners, and drag-queen story hour can only take them so far.

What Trump offers is a kind of political entertainment product based entirely on his personage. The Trump media-personality-project exists beyond the scope of actually doing any kind of governmental administration, let alone applying itself to 'fix' what's not working. It's an empty hole where govt used to be. I wonder how big the personality of his successor is going to have to be to maintain that kind of momentum and fill that gaping void?
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.

If Donald Trump is ruminating about if he’s getting into heaven, he’s close enough to the end that he already knows the answer. When they start talking like that, they don’t have much longer.

Trump to the married couple: "well, I am not getting into Heaven, the way I cheated on all three of wives." Trump then asks for the bride's number.

Asked why the US puts heavy tariffs on an ally like Australia, Trump first denied the tariffs exist, then immediately admitted they do, and finally claimed they are very light.
Schrödinger’s tariffs: they both exist and don’t, depending on the sentence.

He is suing for the 4 years he was not president. The supreme court had not decided he was immune for Jan 6th. So we investigated him. He would have only got some sort of probation and fine for his boxes of documents.

An archived version of the article. It points out that Deputy Attorney General Blanche, one of the two people at the department who would decide how to respond to the complaints (these are not actually lawsuits) was formerly his personal lawyer. I assume the other is also a Trump bootlicker since that's currently a requirement for such a position.

Just as a little 'fuck you' on the side, Trump commuted the prison sentence of the convicted con man and swindler, former Representative George Santos. You might think he did that simply because he feels a kinship with Santos, and you might be right. On the other hand Trump himself strongly implied that he did it because Santos always voted Republican.

Trump has his crew working on getting him to win the 2020 election.

Trump: "We can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again. We just can't let that happen. I know Kash is working on it, everybody is working on it. And certainly Tulsi is working on it. We can't let that happen again to our country."
