I have a suspicion as to why Homo sapiens has a propensity for becoming attached to a belief system (MAGA, religion, orthodox marxism etc.) even in the face of contrary evidence. In a simpler tribal world, to vacillate because of thinking through the pros and cons of a belief system already adopted by significant numbers of the tribe would be potentially contra survival.
