Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
If Moldova is next then the whole thing is about killing NATO and Ukraine merely a distraction and icebreaker for the full superpower conflict.

If Trump had been re-elected, Ukraine would have been occupied a year ago.

I don't understand what you mean about Trump.

Hey crumple, if Putin intended for this to blow up, why didn't he invade when Trump was president?

Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
There was no effort on the part of Trump to hold back Putin. If he had to choose between Ukraine ( did not find dirt on Biden!) and Russia, he would have favored Russia.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 10:07 pmI don't understand what you mean about Trump.

Ok, makes sense. --people will point out though that he armed Ukraine..
I just think he's such a mess that anything would have been possible.

Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
I'm convinced he wants the maximum explosion to go out on. You are imagining he's got some greater glory in mind beyond setting off a thousand nukes. He's playing with the West like a cat does a mouse, whilst you all know some men can not be bought or reasoned with, you all sadly keep pretending he can. What's his game and what's his price. Might be out of range when he's only a year or two to live and in constant pain, using the pain he's feeling as his policy compass.

Um Russia has committed 90% of its conventional armed forces to this pissant fight in the Ukraine.....pretty shabby cat you are so frightened of.
Without nukes he doesn't have much left in conventional weapons.
And troop moral seems low and getting worse.....3 days of food FFS.....and unrest at home. Certainly there is a risk of a madman going out but would his military obey him?

Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
The Russian Armed Forces have around a million active-duty personnel. Also,
Russia has committed 90% of that lot, you say?...as of 2017, the Armed Forces received more than 30,000 units of new and modernized weapons and equipment, including more than 50 warships, 1,300 aircraft, over 1,800 drones, 4,700 tanks and armored combat vehicles compared to two warships, 151 aircraft and 217 tanks received in 2007–2011. The Russian army also receives 150-250 aircraft per year and over 300 short-range UAVs.

Conventional weapons. Warships hardly count but I think the quote was for 90% of the forces Putin had designated for this "special effort"

The US stated that Russia's invasion is designed to decapitate Ukraine's government: one of the three main axes of assault is directed at the capital Kyiv, a senior US defense official said.
"It is our assessment that they have every intention of basically decapitating the government and installing their own method of governance, which would explain these early moves.”

Doesn't matter. It's not like Russia is fighting a war on multiple fronts and its capacity far outstrips Ukraine's.

Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
Might be they are staying outside Kyiv cos the plan is to nuke it in a display of shock'n'awe? Putin might like the idea of a Greater Russia on a map but doesn't seem so bothered about people living there for the new few thousand years. Why should he care? He won't be around.

Re: Russia invades Ukraine again?
No. They're staying out of Kyiv because they're still bombing and it's bad for moral to bomb your own troops. When they've reduced cover and adequately traumatised the population they'll move in, facing less resistance and apatite for an urban guerilla resurgence. They've bombed every major road and railway line out of Kyiv so the population is trapped. They've used the same tactics the US/UK used in Iraq.

BBC
Russia has said it will open new humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to evacuate.
Evacuation routes published by Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency show civilians will be able to leave to Russia and Belarus.
The corridor from Kyiv will lead to Russian ally Belarus, and civilians from Kharkiv will only have a corridor leading to Russia.
