More than 2000 cases now in a single factory.

Some details on infected person, virus load etc
WSJ
Aerosol transmission is a scary thing,” she said. “That’s an exposure that’s hard to manage and it’s invisible.” Ensuring infected individuals stay home is important, she said, but that can be difficult due to testing constraints. So additional protocols to interrupt spread, like social distancing in workspaces and providing N95 respirators or other personal protective equipment, might be necessary as well, she said.

Some scientists say while aerosol transmission does occur, it doesn’t explain most infections. In addition, the virus doesn’t appear to spread widely through the air.

“If this were transmitted mainly like measles or tuberculosis, where infectious virus lingered in the airspace for a long time, or spread across large airspaces or through air-handling systems, I think you would be seeing a lot more people infected,” said the CDC’s Dr. Brooks.

My own state of Victoria is having a mini-spike of cases in various clusters, while the rest of Oz is having virtually no new cases. All the other state leaders are saying mean things about us, and closing their borders! :sulk:

Here is a fascinating article from our ABC about the increased risk of Covid-19 to bald men:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-24/ ... 9/12385216
Two small studies published recently suggested most men hospitalised with COVID-19 are bald, generating headlines around the world.

While this may sound strange, science does offer a plausible explanation.

Male pattern baldness is associated with high levels of male sex hormones called androgens.

And androgens seem to play an important role in the entry of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, into cells.

So it's possible high levels of androgens might increase the risk of severe infection and death from COVID-19.

This hypothesis is important to identify people at risk and raises the possibility of new treatment strategies for COVID-19.

Men suffer more than women from COVID-19. It's been obvious from early in the pandemic. Men are at greater risk of severe infection and death from COVID-19 than women.

There are several possible factors at play here. For one, men are more likely to suffer from chronic conditions known to pose a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. These include heart disease and diabetes.

Another is that men's immune systems are not as good as women's at warding off the severe effects of viral infections.

These factors are indirectly influenced by sex hormones. Now it seems sex hormones might also have a direct effect on SARS-CoV-2's ability to enter our cells and establish infection.

In one study of 122 male COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals in Madrid, 79 per cent were bald — about double the population frequency.

Another small study in Spain observed a similar overrepresentation of baldness among men in hospital with COVID-19.

How does this link make biological sense?

SARS-CoV-2 enters human lung cells when a protein on the virus' surface (the spike protein) latches onto protein receptors (ACE2 receptors) embedded in the cells' surfaces.

How does this work? Recently scientists discovered that an enzyme called TMPRSS2 cleaves the SARS-CoV-2's spike protein, enabling it to bind to the ACE2 receptor. This allows the virus to enter the cell.

The gene that encodes TMPRSS2 is activated when male hormones, particularly DHT, bind to the androgen receptor (a protein on the surface of cells, including hair cells and lung cells).

So the more male hormone, the more androgen receptor binding, the more TMPRSS2 is present, and the easier it is for virus to get in.

9B, are you saying that there are fewer gay guys with male-pattern baldness?

There is a game being played, where you enter any number into google with ' coronavirus cases', and it returns lots of articles.

I am not sure what the game is for, but it reminds me that programs write endless articles which serve unclear purposes.

I haven't played myself, because I can't see the relevance. I think the righties playing think it proves the virus-panic is a media hoax, but to me it could also easily be the fact that, like the 'Trump-bump', mentioning it in your article gets it more views.

With AI authored articles being part of our quaint little internet, it isn't surprising, at least to me.

Is there any evidence that gay men, on average, have lower testosterone levels?

Maybe there is a chance to cure heterosexuality using hormone therapy.

I am afraid, even hormone therapy will not be able to cure this.
