I think it's reasonable to question both how and why there is a steady narrative about Russia being communist, evil and all that. I don't know all of Russia, but the people I know seem to have a decent life, in a country which looks much like mine, among people who seem like...regular people.

I mean, if I only listened to the racist media, I would have (DID have!) a different opinion on russia, but I've opened other channels, and found nice things.

For example, did you know that the largest stone ever moved by modern man was for a memorial in St. Petersberg? It's the base for this statue of Peter the Great, installed by Catherine the Great.

It is still the cold war narrative. Of course there are lovely highly educated people in Russia. Wierd thing how I am starting to bond with Immanuel over Russia!

What I hear from mainstream media sounds very similar to Trump Derangement Syndrome (and has for years)

What I hear from real people in Russia makes it sound a lot more believable.

There is something a bit racist about the way Russia is painted in the news.

Not knowing the culture (and confounded by the fact that most of my information came from 'news' sources for years) I don't know if it's important, but when Putin and Trump met, that football handoff seemed weird.

If it was a 'football country' like Brazil or England, I could see it, but I never thought of Russia as a big football nation.

The question is not how rich Putin is, but how corrupt, he did not get rich on a KGB colonel's wages... he used and abused his situation to make himslef prodigiously wealthy... even more so than his pal Medvedev, and I ve seen a whole two hour video by Alexei Navalny demonstrating how wealthy and corrupt Medvedev is... and maybe explaining why Sochi was chosen for the olympics... so they could attend while staying in their luxury dachas...

Most of the US politicians (who have had whole careers in politics) have WAY too much money for comfort.

Trump got rich being a boorish, businessman for years, then seems to have lost money serving as president.

I don't know Russian politics, except for some english-language and probably biased sources. What I hear from regular people makes me think it is not all that different from the US or Canada.

So the Clinton Foundation having their donations drop significantly after Hillary lost, should indicate that Trump was BY FAR the best choice this time.

They got filthy rich on the public purse, but the donations fell off quite sharply, as soon as it was clear she had no presidency to sell favours from.

The donated funds got very high when she was a high-ranking white house official (Secretary of State, I think, for the previous president)
