Well I figure they might not feel as vulnerable in society as Indians might in the US. I don't know what the proportions are in the two countries, so that might be totally off the mark. And it might be off the mark even if the proportions are in favour of the UK. It was just an idea to consider in the debate.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:29 pmWhat, you just accept that makes sense perv? Further discussion of the issue of free speech at US universities:
'There Is No Campus Free Speech Crisis: A Close Look at the Evidence'
'There Is No Campus Free Speech Crisis: A Close Look at the Evidence'
The campus free speech debate is heating up. Last month I made the case (first in a Twitter thread and then again at the Washington Post’s The Monkey Cage) that there is no campus free speech crisis. Around the same time, similar arguments were made by Matt Yglesias (at Vox), Aaron Hanlon (at NBC), and Mari Uyehara (at GQ). The gist of our collective argument was that young people and university students are generally supportive of free speech, that university enrollment is associated with an increase in tolerance for offensive speech, and that a small number of anecdotes have been permitted to set the terms of public debate.
Unsurprisingly, these debunkings have attracted some debunkings of their own. The most detailed of these was a pair of posts by Sean Stevens and Jonathan Haidt at the Heterodox Academy. In addition to restating the case for why the campus free speech crisis is real, Stevens and Haidt make a number of additional claims for why alarm is warranted. I am grateful for their critique, but I am not persuaded.

Re: Problematic Stuff
This is a political cartoon from an 1881 British magazine. The cartoon and the article was addressed to the British viewpoint regarding Irish terrorism and violence, and the British viewpoint that Irish nationalism and violence was being bred in the United States and transported into the UK.
The Wild Beast is an American of Irish descent. He is being held captive in Britain, as indicated by the figure of the policeman. A girl represents the "Irish Land Bill" (a reform bill designed to placate the Irish in Ireland) and she is held up to present the beast with a “Concession to Violence.” The nursemaid holding the girl (reform bill) up to the "beast" is Prime Minister William Gladstone, the chief supporter of the bill.
So, it's not just a joke, it's a political commentary, in the UK, lampooning and caricaturing Irish-Americans, which the British said is where their violent extremists were coming from....
And, this has, obviously, everything to do with a humorous depiction of a convenience store proprietor as Indian, or a pizza parlor operator as Italian, or a cop as Irish, or a mobster as Russian or Italian, or rich businessman as WASP..... clearly, it's all the same thing.

Wow, fantastic video. Brendan's point of the bit eating the left being reactionary is a great point - folks schooled to reject the Enlightenment, schooled to reject due process, and schooled to reject freedom of speech and thought. I think I like that point because it is exactly the point I've been making for so long now, here on these threads.

That must be a good reason to not address the point of the video Brian Peacock posted.
