Yeah, I'm sure 42's right. Trump is just seeking clarification about the scope and extent of his pardoning powers. I mean, if it's legal for him to pardon anyone who might be successfully prosecuted from the Russia-Trump investigations, including himself, business associates, foreign nationals, or even members of his own family, then that's just a president exercising his prerogative, isn't it?

I referred to what one of the Independent's "persons familiar with the effort" from whom they gleaned their story. The "adviser" the Independent quoted said that Trump was expressing curiosity about his pardon powers and the authority of Mueller.

Is there reason to believe another "person familiar with the effort" over the "adviser" who was quoted? I mean, there's a person familiar with the effort who apparently was privy to private conversations between the President and his lawyers and even between lawyers who apparently had no problem disclosing attorney-client communications and the nature of the legal opinions they were working on. That sounds very plausible. Happens all the time. Lawyers for the President routinely disclose to the media the projects they've been assigned by the President.

I mean, if it's legal for him to pardon anyone who might be successfully prosecuted from the Russia-Trump investigations, including himself, business associates, foreign nationals, or even members of his own family, then that's just a president exercising his prerogative, isn't it?
Not necessarily. Pardons are serious matters, and even if they are within the purview of the President, they are open to much criticism. However, given the dearth of information provided by the Independent article, we don't really know what, if anything, Trump is doing on this. The article doesn't really tell us anything, does it?

Persons familiar with the effort...what effort? The article is kind of vague. Grammatically, it seems to be referring to the "effort to obstruct Robert Mueller in his investigation." what other effort might the article be referring to here? Who are these sources? The article leads with the sources who say that they know what the President discussed with his lawyers, what assignments they were given, and even were privy to the lawyers' own communications about what they're working on. Who're they talking to? Then they bury later the "adviser" (to whom? the article is vague - if it's not an Adviser to the President, then who is it?), who just said that the President in a meeting expressed interest in knowing the extent of his authority and Mueller's authority.

So, what're we to be believe from this?

Most of these articles sound like horseshit. I mean, if you heard such an article about a politician you liked, would you credit it much? I mean - "persons familiar with the effort?" That's the description of the unnamed sources given? And, we're supposed to come away from this article outraged over Trump's behavior, even though when it's said and done the article basically says that some people are saying Trump asked about his pardon authority and Robert Mueller's authority. Doesn't the article sound a bit like hype?

It's not like we get all the goodies ourselves. We are sharing Trump too! First the Paris agreement, now this!
Six months ago, one powerful white man in the White House, watched by seven more, signed a piece of paper that will prevent millions of women around the world from deciding what they can and can’t do with their own bodies.

In that moment, on his very first Monday morning in office, Donald Trump effectively signed the death warrants of thousands of women. He reversed global progress on contraception, family planning, unsustainable population growth and reproductive rights. His executive order even has implications for the battle against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.

Rarely can the presidential pen have been flourished to such devastating effect. The policy it reintroduced will shut health clinics in Uganda and HIV programmes in Mozambique; it will compel women from Nepal to Namibia to seek out deadly back-street abortions.

“It is an unprecedented attack on women’s rights – it goes much deeper than abortion,” said Ulla Müller, president and CEO of EngenderHealth, a leading advocacy organisation.

Tewodros Melesse, director general of the the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), which stands to lose as much as $100m, said the US move “seeks to restrict the rights of millions of women. It asks us as a health provider, to stop providing services which are entirely legal in countries through our members – where some of the most poorest women, depend on them.

From my wide survey of sane people on the internet, throwing out a few loonies, 50% think this
It is obvious that he is hiding some bad stuff. To make things worse he's absolutely shameless about it and doesn't care who knows it. To him the fact that he has done the stuff doesn't matter as long as he can get away with it.

Yeah, it's embarrassing. Mr Never Wrong will never be wrong. Even if Trump winds up impeached, it will still all be a liberal media conspiracy.

This is the problem. Education cannot reach all corners. You are going to have thickos that will always support other loonies. We have them as well and they are called Wilder's supporters or the PVV. The name is oxymoron; Party For Freedom :hehe: The right wing nutters always come up with these sorts of names.
