You don't think that anyone would seriously argue that movies and video games cause sexism? That's a common argument from the gender politicking side.

Being a cause of sexism doesn't mean being the only cause or causal factor. But, if it is a causal factor, if it does "contribute" to sexism, then it is a cause of sexism, by definition. If the "contribution" does not result an in an increase in sexism, then it's not contributing to sexism, is it?

What's your distinction here between being a contribution to sexism vs a cause of sexism? If you understood me to mean "the only" cause, well, then I'll clarify that I did not intend that.

You didn't say "a" cause. You said they cause sexism. A better way to write it would have been to say "there is no evidence that movies and video games contribute to sexism".

That's the distinction. Clarification accepted.

The mistake here is yours, because you are under the mistaken understanding that saying X causes sexism means that only X causes sexism, or that all sexism is caused by X.

This is just another example of you using poor choices of words when there are simple alternative ways to write something.

No, it's just another example of either your inability to understand plain English, or your purposeful misconstruction of what people write to create a side issue and derail another thread.

As per modern identity politics, the Y chromosome is always to blame.

pErvin & Forty Two,

You have both been issued with a WARNING against the Play Nice rule.

It's clear that you strongly disagree with each other on a number of issues, and while forthright disagreement is to be encouraged, personal censure and/or criticism justified off the back of that disagreement is not, and only tends discussion towards the kind of bear pit mentality the Play Nice rule is designed to limit, and where possible avoid.

Please keep this in mind in future.

Brian & Jim.
