ROFLOL... It takes a Merkin to call the hillybilly a leftist... for that matter, both parties are hotbeds of corruption and cronyism and ought to be shut down and replaced by fresh, unestablished groups...
then again I've always said that proacticing politics oughtta be a capital crime, especially in countries that still have capital punishment.

You can't answer those questions for any candidate. Who might be Trump's VP? Governor Chris Christie, perhaps? Or, he might be Attorney General. Maybe Governor Paul LaPage from Maine would be in Trump's cabinet. Other folks who might hold prominent positions -- Scott Brown, former Senator from Massachusetts. ?Duncan Hunter, Congressman from California, and Chris Collins and Tom Marino, Congressmen out of New York and Pennsylvania. Businessmen Steve Forbes, Carl Icahn, might be part of his advisory group.piscator wrote:Trump=chaosForty Two wrote:I don't think it will be a match thrown on the country, for one, so I reject that premise.piscator wrote:Forty Two wrote:

Not that you vote will matter in the end, but you'd rather throw a fucking match on the country than see Hillary elected?
At best, he'll appoint (or try to appoint) his inexperienced yes-men to jobs they have no background for and the government bureaucracies will either run themselves, or cost even more $$.
Who's going to be Trump's VP? Chief of Staff? Secretary of State? Oh Jesus...
He's a one-man show, folks.
Who is going to be in Hillary Clinton's group? More of the same Wall Street pocket-liners that we have seen for a generation or so? Establishment folks, who have gotten us where we are?
What in the world does Wall Street being in New York and Hillary being a former Senator from New York have to do with it? The fact is, Hillary is in their pocket. When Bernie Sanders says that Wall Street firms are buying influence with Hillary by donating millions to her campaign and Super PAC, he is absolutely right. Sanders has correctly pointed out that Hillary and every candidate that gets that money says that the donations from Wall Street and the fossil fuel industry don't impact their decisions. I quote Sanders - "Every candidate says that. Well the question that we ask: Is Wall Street and all of these other billionaires and wealthy individuals, are they really so dumb? Why are they contributing to much money?"piscator wrote:She was a Senator from New York. Wall Street is in New York. That they're still friends indicates confidence. You want fucking Trump to rationalize the $$ system?Trump is, in many respects, despite his indelicate delivery, correct on many issues. Hillary is an insider, and we'd get more of the same corporatism and cronyism.
Having been a Senator doesn't impress me much. Rubio was a Senator too. Big deal? You think "that they're [Hillary and Wall Street Firms] still friends indicates confidence..." -- that's a naive statement. This isn't about "friends" or Wall Street confidence that Hillary is the right person to do the job and "rationalize the money system." Come on, man. That's just bizarre. They're buying influence. They're buying Hillary Clinton. She does what they want, and they're interested in making money. They aren't a benevolent society, out for the best interest of the country.
that's about the dumbest statement I've heard in a long time.piscator wrote:You're going to have to explain how that works. It sounds like those clever Asians have used corporatism to defeat the free market, and your solution is tariffs or some other form of corporatism?Trump is, for example, correct when he talks about China and Japan's currency manipulations and taxes used to keep out American products (contrary to trade deals) which creates unsustainable trade deficits and causes more and more American factories to close.
Asians used corporatism to defeat the free market? First, if it sounds like that to you, doesn't that sound like a bad thing? Why would anyone be in favor of countries using corporatism to defeat the free market? Second, the reality is that the the Chinese and the Japanese are violating trade deals. These are free trade deals which are supposed to take down tariffs and barriers to trade between countries, and the deals are written to flow both ways. It's supposed to be freer for them and freer for us to trade. But, they've taken advantage of the US dropping our tariffs and barriers to imports, but they have kept their barriers high. It's a one way deal now, and our government has not not addressed that issue.
The currency manipulation engaged in by China is a de facto tariff. China should be designated a "currency manipulator" and that would set in motion the countervailing duties against Chinese imports. China recently added a additional tariffs and duties on certain American automobiles, and that's in addition to the original 25% tariff on all US automobiles. General Motors faces the greatest impact, almost 22% extra (over the 25% tariff) on some sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and other cars with engine capacities above 2.5 litres. Chrysler faces a 15% penalty, while a 2% levy will be imposed on BMW, whose US plants make many of the cars it exports to China. The unwritten rule of U.S.-China trade is simple: The U.S. buys Chinese products, but China won’t buy American products unless they can’t be produced in China.
Also, if an American company wants access to the Chinese market, that company must share its intellectual property, a condition that violates international fair-trade standards and World Trade Organization rules. And, then China cut a deal with the Obama Administration about intellectual property, designed to protect firms on both sides against infringement. Of course, the agreement isn't worth the paper it's printed on because China-sponsored firms immediately began massive cyber attacks on US firms.
And, fuck off with the "clever Asians" shit. It's not about them being Asian. It's about them playing by a different set of rules.

I'm sorry Warren, I don't see a lot of existing American factories closing because of new Chinese import duties and Japanese currency manipulations. I see a lot of American factories closing because labor, electric power, tooling, and raw materials are so much cheaper in China that they feel they can't compete with their American competition unless they offshore their manufacturing.
Chinese barriers to trade are not an issue that's going to drive people to the polls for Trump. Moreover, I don't see the Chinese being as awestruck with Mr Trump as low income white Americans with low education levels. I also don't see The Donald Winning HUGE in trade negotiations with China, even if he were to handle it all himself.

Oh, Ben Carson will be endorsing Trump on Friday. Must still be pissed about Cruz saying he was dropping out day before Iowa caucus......
Trump dealing with China over trade would be interesting. And if Trump can claw back some American manufacturing jobs away from China through tariffs or what not, you can bet other Western countries might follow suit. A real economic down turn in China, and not just an anemic 5% growth (lol), could spell big problems for the Communist government, maybe even an "Asian Spring" to shake up their government.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Ridiculous flight of fancy. The Philippines and Mexico will get any dubious American manufacturing jobs "clawed back" by any supposed Trumpenprotectionism.

If the test is whether one is "impressed" with the lineup that will come along with a candidate, you can color me unimpressed with the people Hillary Clinton would surround herself with. And, supporting Hillary Clinton, but descrying anyone else as "corrupt as they come" is a big belly laugh. Really? You're against corruption, are you? LOL.piscator wrote:

Oh, will you accept, say, a Democratic candidate's appointee's behavior as strike against that candidate? I just want to clarify that, because we can talk about the folks who worked for Clinton, too, if you like.
No, I'm saying the arbitrageurs, media tycoons and Wall Street financiers support Hillary. You think that will lead us forward, apparently. The arbitrageurs are backing Hillary and funding her SuperPAC with huge dollars.piscator wrote:So you're saying the NE Republican clubs, arbitraguers, and media tycoons will lead us forward?Other folks who might hold prominent positions -- Scott Brown, former Senator from Massachusetts. ?Duncan Hunter, Congressman from California, and Chris Collins and Tom Marino, Congressmen out of New York and Pennsylvania. He also happens to be right about the trade issues with China, Japan and Mexico, and hasn't been bought and paid for by the Wall Street financiers and arbitrageurs.
I'm not defending Mit Romney, he too was bought and paid for by the Wall Street folks. You want a President like Mitt Romney? Vote Hillary. Jeb Bush is part of the same establishment. Well, I guess you differed with Obama in 2012, when he, during debates with Romney, accused China of cheating in international trade, in part by dumping products on the US market, and manipulating their currency which depresses the price of their exports making it impossible for US factories to compete. China constantly prints new currency and uses it to buy U.S. dollars and U.S. government debt, thereby flooding the market with Chinese currency and increasing demand for American dollars. China manages the value of the yuan within a narrow range, and keeps it approximately 20 percent below its free market value against the dollar.piscator wrote: I see a lot of American factories closing because labor, electric power, tooling, and raw materials are so much cheaper in China that they feel they can't compete with their American competition unless they offshore their manufacturing.
China engages in this currency manipulation in violation of international law, as a member of the IMF. Japan, too. This is not controversial. It's known. And, the US has not done anything about it.
It's what is driving many of them to the polls. Certainly not the details of how it works. But, the notion that our leaders are weak and allowing other economic players to cheat on international agreements is what is driving Trump's popularity.piscator wrote:
Chinese barriers to trade are not an issue that's going to drive people to the polls for Trump.

Nobody cares about "awestruck" except a fanboy. It's about power. A deal is made not because people like each other or are "awed" by the other person's charisma.

The Drumpf Art of the Meal menu includes three items, Kelly said: the Drumpf footlong ($2.69), which comes fully dressed Chicago-style; the Drumpf Package ($8.30), including two mini-dogs with fries and a drink; and the Super PAC ($12.56) with four mini-dogs, fries and a drink.
“At The Wiener’s Circle, we’re going to do our part to make him feel at home,” Kelly said. “Americans are hungry for a good old fashioned Drumpf footlong.” (Source)
