Not quite right. We have 100 shouts to the round and 10 rounds make one legless man.

Ah, well - in those terms we have 100 drams to the bucket and 100 buckets to the Hogmanay.

Ah, at last! A sensible post, in amongst all the .... what was the term? ..... horseshit.

Spite. Exactly.
Call it spite if you like. I call it resisting the nationalists' desire to have their cake and eat it. If you guys want to bugger off so much do it properly.

The remaining UK will do what's in the interest of the remaining UK. Not what that lying git Alex Salmond SAYS is in their interest. If they don't share a currency, it's because it isn't worth it.

Scotland has quite a huge financial sector at the moment, way out of proportion to it's size, and it's all backed up by the bank of England. If Scotland isn't in a currency union with the UK, that financial sector will be in free-fall, and the business will mostly migrate to London.
That's a huge incentive NOT to have a currency union for any British Prime Minister, or Chancellor.
All that new business will boost London nicely.

Is that a dog-in-the-manger attitude? No, it's what you do when dealing with a foreign country. You do what's best for your own interests.

Is this true?

You might be voting for a police state if it is.

yeah - I spotted it and started the thread (link above). I am still at a bit of a loss that more fuss hasn't been made of this alarming development. I'm tempted to write to my local MP!

It's the UK that's turning into a police state... one more reason to secede.

Well the practice is only happening in Scotland so far...

I have now written to my MP expressing my concern. Not that anything much will come of it, but it is better than just bitching.
