If people were voting for the good of others or the country then why bother with voting at all. Just have a committee of the good and wise to run the country permanent, in fact just have an enlightened dictator

Dictatorships can in theory be altruist ,democracy never can

Democracy is just a way of people who don't like each other avoiding being in a permanent state of war (well actually its still war just without the bodies)

I in no way recognise most the population as my equals, they may have equal rights but that doesn't make them equal to me. Some are brighter than me, a lot more are really really stupid. However I accept for society to function without continuous conflict everyone gets the vote.

I agree with Seth in looking down at the most of the human race but where I differ is 10000 stupid people are more than a match for 1 very bright MrJonno so we all have to make accommodation
