Religiosity isn't a difficult concept. The more people report being religious, the more they report being serious about their religion, the higher the religiosity.

As for societal ills, things like homicides, teen suicide, poverty, STDs, and teen pregnancies

If fewer kids in the UK recognize something as being a story from a particular book, declining literacy rates are probably a bigger factor than declining religiosity.
