Not the worst of ideas, at least as far as the GOP ticket goes. :thinks:

Concur about Paul Ryan, he needs to wait a while (and then be crushingly defeated, as I despise his politics. Ditto for Rand Paul). Rubio only seems like a viable candidate at first glance; I also don't think he's ready for prime-time. And did I hear that Ted Cruz is mulling a run, citing "grassroots support"? That would be a spectacular disaster - I'd watch his campaign with the same interest as driving past a massive accident on the side of the highway.

What about Jon Huntsman? Personally, I think he only ran in 2012 so that he could build some name recognition in order to run more successfully in 2016. Maybe he'll do it. :ask:

On the Democratic side, I really hope Joe Biden doesn't bother to run. He's okay as veep, but I think he'd be a joke as President. The guy doesn't seem to understand how silly he can sound when he rambles on about something. I prefer Obama's cautious press corps answers to his verbal diarrhea. The soundbites from a Biden presidency would provide comedians with material for years.

A while back I speculated that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) could someday run. So I was happy to see this on Politico a couple days ago: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/k ... 90706.html
But I don't think that'll happen in 2016, even if Hillary doesn't run. She'd be better off in 2020 (if a Republican wins in 2016) or 2024 or later.

Awesomeness, but Warren won't run, at least not in 2016. But I'd love to see it, if only to see how much Wall St. craps themselves over the possibility of her winning. :{D

A female duo probably wouldn't win, anyway. Too many people out there, male and female, that think women arent up to the job. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a good male running mate for Hillary though.

I'm o.k. with Ryan if he would get rid of his extreme pro-Life stance and his overall religious bent. He has potential regarding economics.

I like Jon Huntsman, but for some reason the media eschewed him. There is hardly a more accomplished guy in the mix. Ambassador a couple of times over. Appointments under Bush I, Clinton, Bush II and Obama. A successful businessman. A family man with both natural and adopted children. Charity work out the wazoo. Yet, he was hardly looked at or reported on in the news. The thing is, he doesn't offer the sensationalism that other candidates do. The media like to focus on GOP candidates like Michelle Bachmann because they are nutters.

Too old. He will be 74 years old in 2016.

Elizabeth Warren would be great, because she's a Native American. :leave:

I can think of a few potentials, but none that I'm sure of as any good.

I keep hearing about Martin O'Malley, who is governor of Maryland. I live in Maryland and I hardly know anything about the guy, other than he seems ambitious. Sure, he's fairly popular here, but he's a Democrat in a very blue state who's been successful thanks in no small part to a very blue state legislature.
And Andrew Cuomo's name (New York) comes up now and then.

I guess when your party has a President in office it's not too easy to see potential successors other than the veep. And in this case (and far more so for the Dubya administration with Cheney) the veep isn't much of a prospect for a follow-on presidency. That's why people keep coming back to Hillary - not so much that she was an excellent Senator and Secretary of State (though I'd say she sure was), but because she's already run and came damn close to winning; IMO, whoever won the Democratic primary in 2008 was destined to win that November.

Communist witch-hunter gun violence advocate and all around scumbag Ted Cruz is considering running for President! “Why limit yourself to being hated by your colleagues when you could be hated by the whole country?” - Jon Stewart

When John McCain, a fellow Senate Republican, calls you a "kookybird" in public, it's time to step back and consider the likelihood that a Presidential run might not be a great idea.
