Cops are gun nuts?

You going to register yours, or give them up?
Mine are always registered. I'm not afraid.
You're stupid.

You wish my points were bullshit.
I do not believe I have ever said these guys are my heroes. They are simply working men and women. Some are good. Some are bad, even corrupt. Some are certainly heroes, but some are the opposite.

However, I notice you evaded my points, and went straight for the red herring comment.

Oh fucking please.
How about you reply to my questions and your own red herring bullshit.

You didn't--see--because you can't.
Can't--AKA can not.

Here's the thing, and both of us know it, there is diddly squat you can do to change things in the US.
And that is a good thing.
So why don't you just take care of your own backyard.

Gallstones

I know I can do nothing about the situation in the USA. However, this is a debate. We are discussing things, not changing them. As a member of this forum, I have the same privilege of inclusion in the debate as you have.

Same diameter as a .50bmg
Ouch.
Izzat different from .50?
Uhm, no. 50 would still be the diameter of the projectile.
The Browning Machine Gun would have pointed bullets whereas the 500 SW Magnum has semi-wadcutters. Partially jacketed as well.
Not to mention that a .50 BMG has an enormous case capacity - thus far more powder resulting in much higher muzzle velocity.. also the projectile is way bigger. Do your physics. No, not the same at all.

Unless you meant the .50AE?

Here's an idea - all guns that are registered need to be test fired in a forensic laboratory, and the results carefully tabulated and put into a data base, and the bullets and cartridges kept. That way, a gun later used in a crime can easily be traced back to its owner via the bullets (and sure, it may well have been stolen, but it would still give the police a good starting point)

Law-abiding gun owners would not be inconvenienced by this, it doesn't infringe on their precious "right to bare arms" (just wear a short-sleeved shirt, FFS...)

Gun-obsessors are terrified of the mythical "slippery slope". "We can't do anything because something bad might eventually happen." MIGHT being the excuse to do nothing, of course.

Not a bad idea, Jim, except that ballistics is not that exact. However, I see no reason a system could not be devised to identify bullets individually, and a record made of which bullet was sold to which person. If the political will existed, it could be done. There is that damned word 'if' though.

Law makers in Canada figured out long ago that it's far easier and more effective to control the supply of ammunition. A gun, looked after, will work for hundreds of years or many, many, thousands of rounds of ammunition, thus once it is in circulation it is hard to remove. Ammunition, however, is harder to traffic and a necessary pairing (with a firearm) for anyone who wishes to shoot something.

So you require a license to buy ammunition. This does not conflict with the precious 2nd amendment as the right to 'bear arms' is not being infringed - the supply of ammunition is being controlled.

We have a shooter's licence system (plus the need to register each firearm, and have a lockable storage area). I'm pretty sure you have to show your licence when buying either a gun or ammunition...

And the legal firearms are pretty well restricted to bolt or lever action rifles, and shot guns...

EDIT - Farmers can obtain semi-automatic .22 rifles, and semi-automatic centre fires can be obtained, but you need a special licence, and to get that you have to prove a need...

The long gun registration in Canada was abolished a little while ago - it cost us millions and did absolutely nothing. You can buy a gun from anyone* without a license, though you are supposed to do some paper work few people do it. Ammunition is harder to get illegally. That's my point. With millions of guns in circulation in the United States, tighter controls will do little. Besides, controlling ammunition sales sidesteps the 2nd amendment.
