It's got a 65% rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. Loads of bad reviews. Which is baffling to me since I thought it was very good. Not that RT is The Bible or anything. And not that my opinion carries a lot of weight. But still. I read the negative reviews and wonder if we've seen the same film.

I could actually give a fuck about the reviews, as usual. It was a lot of fun. Damn near pissed myself not wanting to miss anything. The troll sequence was spot on.

Many of the reviewer's complaints seemed to me to be the exact opposite of what I witnessed right in front of my own eyes.

There are about six natural endings in the book:

The defeat of the trolls.
The escape from the goblin lair.
The rescue by eagles.
The escape from the elves' prison.
The defeat of Smaug.
The actual end of the book.

I figure the three films will end with 2, 4, & 6, but you never know with someone who loves the source material as much as Jackson and crew. The ways he/they improved on the LOTR source material were remarkable.

Why? They were just stone then. And the Fellowship did encounter them in the book.

Actually, in FotR, the only part of the cave troll you see is the foot, before Frodo stabs it with Sting and it goes away.
and I find that troll particularly ugly, and not in a successful way, plus the fact that in the original, the mithril shirt guarded frodo from an orc's spear thrust, whiule what happened in the film should have resulted in pureed frodo anyway, so I want to kill whoever designed and handled the troll, plus whoever wrote the scene and approved it (plus I want to slap whoever else participated in it with a week dead flounder for not protesting loud enough that such a scene had to be rewritten)
