Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

It's a case of public representatives being too afraid of a divisive issue to actually put forward concrete proposals to address it. It's not exactly a vote-winner to be seen as decisive on this. Sad, but true.Elif air ab dinikh wrote:What do they call experts over there? The catholic church continues to make peoples lives a misery a organisation with 18th century values has no place in the 21st century.

I hope this leads to them changing this stupid law. Jesus it's like Vera Drake in this country.

So did I, but apparently the legal situation is not that clear, even though the foetus was not viable in this case.Animavore wrote:I thought we had provision for abortion in cases where the woman's life was in danger?

I'm not convinced that would've happened in all hospitals, particularly not ones in Dublin (not a dig). Is this hospital a particularly religious one? I find it hard to believe not one doctor or midwife there said, "Laws be damned. Let's get this woman onto an operating table."klr wrote:So did I, but apparently the legal situation is not that clear, even though the foetus was not viable in this case.Animavore wrote:I thought we had provision for abortion in cases where the woman's life was in danger?

Just to point out that this is not a result of the state of the law or constitution in Ireland. Terminations are perfectly compatible with the law and prevailing medical ethics in Ireland. This has been the case for many years.
What is not permitted is abortion outside the circumstances of a threat to the mother's life.

I wonder if they let her die because she was a pagan?

My point being that the fault does not lie with the law, but with the doctor and medical team who accepted this stupid decision.

What I meant was that the mother died, so the doctors should have acted. I agree with the law to that extent.Cormac wrote:Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Dead mother, case closed.Cormac wrote:Just to point out that this is not a result of the state of the law or constitution in Ireland. Guess she should have stayed in Pakistan or whatever shithole 'stan she came from. I'm sure she could have gotten an abortion on demand there...
