Which of course isn't true. They are.
State sponsored Atheism is the new kid on the block too being under a century old, but in it's short time the body count has been quite impressive.
Ah, two bigots in sync. Get a room.

You simply cannot draw a causal chain from “I do not believe a god exists” to “I’m going to destroy religious organizations and religious people” without an additional belief — and it is that belief that would be the cause of the atrocities.

Nice try, but wrong. Just because there is a chain of beliefs attached to atheism doesn't mean that atheism is not the root cause, or at least a large factor in such a decision. It's no more appropriate to say that atheism is not at the root of atheistic atrocities than it is to say that religion is at the root of religious atrocities. If we accept this silly argument, then atheists make the same error every time they blame religion for what's clearly an "additional belief" associated with religion, particularly when it comes to Christianity, which New Testament-wise, is all about peace, love and not judging people...whereas atheism is about nihilistic nothingness that leaves the individual without any cultural moral compass and therefore free to make, and rationalize whatever moral and ethical decisions best suit their own individual or group tastes at the time. This has been amply demonstrated time and time again by atheistic regimes that completely change all the ordinary "religion-based" rules of morality and society in vain and usually deadly attempts to reinvent that which has evolved in human behavior precisely because of religion and it's cohesive social effects.

Yes...

A lot of selective reading of the bible goes into the creation of the "gentle Jesus, meek and mild" tenet of christianity...

some lovely 'athiestic' goings on all over the middle east at present as a result of some crappy film insulting some mythical character said to have lived a long time ago and revered by large numbers of people, some of whom are having a whale of a time burning things, breaking things, and yelling for death to lots of people - all in the name of religion.

some people cannot resist the kool aid.

I do admit I prefer that one to the "with me or against me" Jesus ""Holey Warrior" that emerges from other passages.

He's just telling you what his Father will do if you don't "remain joined" with him. It's a warning, not a threat.

It's like saying "Hey, don't jump into that thermal pool or you'll get burnt," or "Hey, don't step off that ledge or you'll fall to your death."

Yeah, religious zealotry is a bad thing, whether it's seen in theists or Atheists. Still, all of Islam throughout history are pikers compared to Atheists Stalin and Mao.

You miss the point. I'm an atheist - do you think I'm a potential Stalin?

Hitler called himself a Christian - do you think anyone here blames Christianity for Naziism?
