She makes some interesting points.

I think CES might fall in love. :{D
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I'm feeling a primal urge to objectify her. :hehe:
No, but seriously. She begs very good points.

Though I have to amend my previous statement to add this:
How does this apply to gay and lesbian persons, where the standard opposing instincts of genders do not apply?

That video is so goddamn long.

And she was reciting a bunch of tired crap about how women get dressed up and what all the elements are for, evolutionarily speaking. I don't know, I just got bored. I kept wondering why she'd film herself in front of such an ugly kitchen. Is it some commentary about women in the kitchen? And if she's a modern-minded post-feminist whatever, why can't she repair her ceiling light fixture?

I only made it halfway through.

If she's a sexy woman, why's she got her hair cut like a boy?
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Boys are sexy. Well, some of them.

Don't send me to jail for saying that, please!

Yeah, but if I'm sexually attracted to a woman, I want her to look like a woman, not a boy. I don't want to have to go back to therapy :?

The video is twenty minutes : that is not long : the back ground is completely
irrelevant to the arguments she was advancing : she was discussing feminism not
interior design : it is natural to observe it but in intellectual debate it is not necessary
to pontificate on it : I do try to avoid dismissing anything less there is an absolute reason
for doing so though : I agree with some of what she said : she speaks with the air of one who
is knowledgeable so I sat in silence and listened as we do at our age to those wiser than ourselves

You say you try to avoid dismissing anything less there is an absolute reason for doing so.

When a woman films herself discussing feminism while sitting in a kitchen, it is absolutely sensible to wonder at her reasons for choosing such a setting. And, since film is a visual medium, the choice of setting matters. If she didn't want people to consider the visual aspects of her presentation, she could have simply posted a written argument or an audio recording.

I'm a little unclear why you are so ready to decide that she's wiser than you, based on nothing but her knowledgeable air. Of course, given that you made that choice, you're probably right.

No : it is not absolutely sensible at all to wonder why a woman films herself in a kitchen when discussing
feminism : the setting is completely irrelevant to the subject matter : what is not however is whether
her arguments are presented with logic and reason and are delivered in a clear and precise manner
Yes : film is a visual medium but the purpose of this particular one is the deployment of a set of
ideas that the individual in it is referencing : the rest is superfluous : as to why I think she is
wiser than me : that is because she possesses a greater command of language and is more
perceptive : I do not like to think I am intellectually superior to any one less evidence is
overwhelming and in this case the answer is a definitive no : it is rather unwise to go
through life thinking you know more than you do : so I prefer humility to arrogance

I find it really difficult to understand why you don't perceive any significance to a woman discussing feminism while sitting in a kitchen.

If said woman were pregnant, wearing a floral apron, and had bare feet, and had just set her mop aside to start talking about how feminism belittles and objectifies women, would you think those signifiers were important?

You don't find her Rachel Maddow crop significant?

You say this woman "is more perceptive" than you. I don't doubt that for a second. I think she understands exactly what the implications are of discussing these things while sitting in Woman's Traditional Place. I certainly think it's reasonable to assume she does, anyway, and to explore the significance of that choice.

The fact that I find those messages, intended or not, more interesting than her speech, doesn't make me arrogant. I think dismissing all visual communication as "superfluous" is arrogant of you.

She may very well understand what the implications are of discussing feminism in a kitchen but
there again it may be entirely coincidental that such a discussion is taking place in that environment
I am not telepathic and so prefer not to waste time and energy on second guessing someone s motives for
posting a film on youtube the way they do : you are probably right but even so I am far more interested in what
she has to say rather than where she is saying it : as for the arrogance comment that was directed at me and not you

tl,dr. Besides, she looks like a fucking horse. The only person that thinks she's sexy is her and maybe her dad (if she's from Arkansas).
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

She is not referring to her self but to feminists who
believe men should not reference them for their beauty
but their brains : she points out that we all objectify those
we are attracted to and so is not wrong to do so within reason
I did not know that there was any incest in Arkansas : interesting
