A woman may wish to be attractive without a desire or intent to have sex.

Do you not understand that?
I didn't say she had a "desire or intent to have sex," I said that it's about sex, and it is. She may not want sex right then, but she's either consciously or unconsciously playing the biological sex-attraction game. She can't help it.

Who said it's males she's trying to attract?
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

A male. :hehe:

Then I suggest you carry a gun, because it doesn't matter what you wear, it only matters how well prepared you are to defend yourself against rape.

Pack a pistol and you can wear anything you want and not be in fear of being raped.
I'm already packing a piece in these budgie-smugglers, dear boy.

If you don't mind, I wont take a firearm to the seaside. I intend to carry nothing more offensive than an ice-cream.

Merely? I think you did a bit more than to point out that the simple solution for not being raped while drunk is not to get drunk. You also said "women wearing short skirts ARE "asking for it." They are flaunting their sexuality deliberately as an exercise of sexual power." That sounds much like something a Muslim would say. I provided an example here.
But they are exploiting their sexuality, which means they are "asking for it." ... you cannot blame men for responding to a woman's sexual advertisement in a sexual manner.
That is what I said you said. I also said that it is no different to the attitude of Muslims.

The Muslims are correct insofar as they point out that women who do not wish to be viewed as sex objects by other than their husbands may wish to conceal themselves.

What's wrong with that, so long as it's voluntary on the woman's part?

You said she's "asking for it." And, you said that "it" meant sex.

She's not, necessarily, asking for sex. Period.

And, because people are sexual and sometimes want sex, doesn't imply consent to sex, or that they are asking for sex.

Women can dress how they like. And, no man or woman can ever control how someone else "views" them.

That, of course, has nothing to do with whether they are asking for sex, or consenting to it.

If a woman passes out drunk whilst wearing a Burqa, is she "asking for it" or not? It's all very confusing.

Because you're an idiot?

You still don't get it. The only problem with the Muslim policy on women in public is that it's mandatory, coercive and enforced against the will of some women. Many American Muslim women CHOOSE to wear the hijab or burka even though they are not required to do so by any law or authority. Many Muslim women appreciate that by dressing modestly and covering themselves they can avoid the pressures of being subject to rude sexist behavior by men in public, so they make the voluntary choice to cover up.

I see absolutely nothing whatever wrong with that attitude, so long as it's entirely voluntary.

Do you?

That depends on if she passes out while bending over toward Mecca.

That is a problem, but coercion is not the issue in this discussion. Please read the quoted bits of the Imam's sermon again, then tell me what Muslim view he expressed there that you disagree with.

I was under the impression that was against the rules?

Was Hermit asking for it? I get so confused sometimes.
