At the boy's school where I taught, I always dressed my young charges as gentlemen (more in hope rather than reality). I'm glad it wasn't a coed school, it would have been tiring to have to say ladies and gentlemen all the time... :tea:

You could've used the gender-neutral "snotface", thereby avoiding causing offense.
