I keep reading this thread title as "Bookkeeping". :banghead:

I am surprised that so many approve!

Maybe we could have a forum charity when I start making honey and cider? Sell it on donate? I dunno. It will be a while, right now it's a matter of R & D and summer is already here so it may be next spring when I buy a hive, but hey - it could work.

I was hooked when I watched the video above. I am kind of an environmentalist on the quiet so this is a natural extension off that. I've always said that wherever the environment is good you'll find bees. They are such gentle and misunderstood creatures. I will just have to be careful that they don't sting my dogs to death. That would be heartbreaking. Other than that I want to make honey. Weird I know, but it genuinely fascinates me. I was especially enamoured at the idea of ordering a queen in the post (all the gay jokes have been done BTW).

I intend to keep bees sometime over the next couple of yrs. We have a guy who keeps some on our land and he gives us some honey when it's ready...so divine! There is like a shared resources attitude with beekeepers as some of the equipment can be expensive (centrifuge e.g.) so it's great that everyone is supportive of each other.
I want to do it properly though, leaving enough honey for the bees to feed rather than giving them sugar solution. Then make candles and stuff! I'm getting very excited. I'll shut up now...

Good for you. Honey is the most ethical sweetener, and it's such a fascinating hobby.
