Blues and Slide

Post by Matty » Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:36 am

I'm a big fan of blues, both listening to and playing, and bottleneck/slide guitar in particular floats my boat no end.
Who are your favourite blues artists or tracks/YT vids?

A few starters featuring my personal favourites. Mostly of the more contemporary slide work or acoustic variety , i'll be back with an electric blues selection later on. as will i with a classics selction

Possibly one of the tastiest casual backstage jams ever ^^
I'll be revisiting derek trucks later. oh yes.

a couple from one of my personal favourites Kelly Joe Phelps

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

He may be a blind, alcoholic albino but the man can play. I love watching Derek Trucks watching Johnny. From the 2010 Crossroads festival, Highway 61 Revisited.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

yeah i reckon he gets overlooked in favour of the possibly more charismatic Peter Green a lot. That and the weird culty thing actively bumped him off the radar, but he has a sweet tone nevertheless.
winter and landreth are both, of course, epic.

the last crossroads dvd introduced me to Robert Randolph and the family band. I seriously like his/their feel.

this was the track that kinda opened my eyes, with daniele and bonammassa, both of who are pretty fucking epic in their own right of course.

^^ Like. Lots

I also adore bonnie raitt's slide tone, and think in this example paired with her and norah jones' vocals its positively goose bump inducing.

^^ Awesome, awesome.

Different mood (and it's a dobro), but...

Kottke has gone off slide quite a bit, but he still does play it. Here is a cover where you can see the slide better than Kottke videos

Ok, it's lip-synched but that's British TV for you, and it's still a great song

Please people!

Limit it to one or two vids per post, my poor little netbook is getting overwhelmed by dozens of embedded vids. :tears:
