In order to "fail" at something, you have to try to accomplish it first. Otherwise it's just "not being a racist." You said "failing to be a racist," which necessarily implies that you tried to be a racist but were unsuccessful. Now, it may be a good thing that you're not successful at being a racist, but you're still a failure because you tried to do something and failed at it.
