I expect to be captured by a web of hair nets and stoned to death with stale scones.

Is it just me, or are Rowan Williams' eyebrows looking more menacing now?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Re: Give up, UK atheists, the bad boys are comin' for ya.
"The rallying call comes amid fears that Christians are suffering from an increasing level of discrimination following a series of cases in which they have been punished for sharing their beliefs." As evidenced by what? Ah, yes, of course: "attempts to marginalise Christianity and to treat religious faith more generally as a social problem" and "suspicion or hostility towards churches and other faith groups". It really is tough being persecuted like that, isn't it? So, let's go back to the good ole days, the days when churches had political, social and moral clout. Let's return to theocracy. In those days churches never put the boot in just because they were wearing it. Just imagine what would have happened if theocratic governments had indulged in punishing atheists (or heretics) by marginalising them and treating them more generally as a social problem, or regarding them with suspicion or hostility.
I also like the report's title: Challenges for the New Quinquennium. I had to look the word up. It's cute, but it harks back to the "five year plans" the Soviet Union was so enthusiastic about formulating.

It was nice knowing you guys - but we all know it had to come to this. It's over.

Reminded me...
Earlier in the summer, my mate's son came back from the village fete that the WI were holding. He'd bought a cake from a stall and proceeded to eat it in front of us.
When he'd finished he pulled a grey hair from between his teeth - a short curly one.
We didn't know whether to laugh or puke.

BRING IT ON!!!!!
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
