It does on occasion annoy the hell out of me that a lot of music I listen (folk, country, blues, mostly early 20th century) is heavily littered with references to God.

Doesn't really bother me, as long as the music's good. Why should the lyrics have to make sense? It's not just god that tries to make an appearance, a lot of woo gets in songs I like too, but it doesn't spoil them for me.

Any chance of posting the lyrics on that? There's a bit around the 3:20 mark where my tin ears can't quite make out the words.

Yeah, it's not often, just occasionally that it grates, but I can overlook it as 'everyone was religious then' and given other songs lyrics they can't have been that God fearing..
