About me: I am an intellectual, a member of the Outer Party, and I live in the ruins of London. I grew up in the post-Second World War UK, during the revolution and the civil war after which the Party assumed power. During the civil war, Ingsoc placed me in an orphanage for training and subsequent employment as a civil servant. I maintain a squalid existence, living in a one-room apartment, eating a subsistence diet of black bread and synthetic meals washed down with Victory-brand gin. I keep a journal of negative thoughts and opinions about the Party and Big Brother, which, if discovered by the Thought Police, will warrant death, so don't tell on me. I am fortunate, because the apartment I live in has an alcove, beside the telescreen, where it cannot see me, and so my thoughts remain private.

If you could remake the movie Casablanca today...

Who would be the actors and actresses involved:

Rick Blaine -- Humphrey Bogart - ?
Ilsa Lunde -- Ingrid Bergman - ?
Victor Laszlo - Paul Heinreid - ?
Sam the Piano Player - Dooley Wilson - ?
Cpt. Renault - Claude Rains - ?
Major Strasser - Conrad Veidt - ?
Signor Ferrari - Sydney Greenstreet - ?
Ugarte - Peter Lorre - ?
Yvonne - Madelaine LeBeau

The other characters are probably too obscure. So, who would you have playing these more or less main characters if the movie was to be made in 2011?
To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone — to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of Big Brother, from the age of doublethink — greetings!

Jack Black for Rick? But, he's such a non-serious actor. I didn't see that one coming, but o.k....

The thing is - no serious actoe today could hold a light to Bogey, so it has to be someone completely off the chart, someone who can re-enact the part completely and approach it from a new angle.

Of course, it will die at the box office, but still.

I would go with Johnny Depp as Rick Blaine. He can morph himself into almost any role and be convincing - he also already has an air of a disaffected American about him....

For Ilsa, I wold go with Scarlett Johannsen.

For Capt Renault, I would go with Harvey Keitel.

For Ugarte, I would go with Steve Buscemi, for sure.

For Ferrari, I would love to go with Tom Sizemore for that one, if he can stay off the Meth.

I'd go with Brad Pitt for Victor Laszlo.

Yvonne could be played by Megan Fox.

Remake Casablanca????!!!! Jesus. You can't improve on perfection. Imagine someone like Keanu Reeves saying "here's looking at you, kid" or "I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue". or "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine". It simply doesn't bear thinking about. It would be fucking sacrilege. Oh jeez - we'll always have Paris - Oh? I thought it was because I let you win at roulette - Oh, he's just like any other man, only more so - Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade.

Nope. Can't be done. Bogey was Bogey, and there will never be another like him.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Johnny Depp can only do Johnny Depp.

I say Liam Neeson for Bogart's role.

James Earl Jones for Sam
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Sam should be played by Chris Rock :hehe: :

Ilsa: Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake, play 'As Time Goes By'

Sam: Fuck you. Fuck your hopes, fuck your dreams, fuck your plans … fuck everything you thought this life was going to bring to you. Now let's go out there and try to make this bitch happy.

I think we need a white guy for same. The racial undertones, and overtones, are too great with the Sam character...

...like...the line where Ilsa asks Capt. Renault about Sam and refers to him, an apparently 40+ year old man, as "the boy at the piano..." and the tap-dancing dialect...

You Bloody serious?

a) can you really picture a nonentity like the scarlett bird saying "Play it Sam"? Dude, you need somebody with personality and charisma as well as looks to pull that off, though I dare say I don't know who could pull that part off today... Why not Dunst, Jessica Alba or Angelina Jolie while you're there?

b) Brad is not right for Victor Lazlo. He should be close to Henreid, short, brunet, and nondescript in a MittelEuropa way, not a hunk. Or if you insist on making him a tall Blond, try an aging one, like Dolf Lundgren

Isn't Liam getting a bit old for the part... a guy in his 40s is ok, but he's pushing 60
