Sandy, you're at least as bad as you claim we are, but you're far worse really, because you have no balance. You're a two-legged cow, two left legs. You can be counted on to yap at America's heels like a starving cur hoping we'll fall over dead and you'll have some bones to pick over. You'd be miserable if we did collapse, however, because you would have to find a new target for your bitterness.

Not obsessed, just what I happen to enjoy posting about here. If it bores you, block my posts or simply don't read them.
Its not that simple. A whole load of people respond to you, you respond back and so on, until every thread is hijacked into the topic of "America, is it shit or is it great?" It gets irksome for those of us who were interested in the original thread topic.
On topic, drugs...I think that marijuana should be legalized completely and sold like alcohol and tobacco. I think all other drugs should be de criminalized completely and addicts and users should be dealt with as medical issues, not criminal ones.
I agree.

it is that simple, for anyone not interested in my posts, don't read them. Simple. As for the original thread topic, to NOT speak of america when discussing the "war" on drugs would be disingenuous.

Gawdzilla and sandinista: you have both been reminded of our rules (see http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 41#p874280) less than 24 hours ago. Since then, you have made posts such as these http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 41#p874401 and http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 80#p874570, which contain more personal attacks. If you do not stop this kind of posting, you will get a cooling off period.

If you're referring to the two-legged cow thing it was a reference to his posting style. I don't know many legs hr has IRL, but I'd think at least two.

I wonder if the reason drugs haven't become legal or even decriminalized is mostly due to fear. Not only a fear of "what will happen??Will everyone become crazy drug addicts :o "...notwithstanding that most people are drug addicts of one form or another anyway...but fear of being killed if you put forward legalization. There is A LOT of $$$ in the drug trade. To put an end to that is not going to be very easy or clean. The governments of the world would be stripping away a lot of wealth from a lot of people. "silver or lead".

A valid point in some countries. But I think the real fear is a fear of not being reelected! Governments know that the "War on DrugsTM has not worked, is not working and will never work; they know that states that have tried experimental decriminalisation have seen a reduction in problem drug use, rather than the predicted increase; they know that the only way to truly combat the drug cartels is by making drugs unprofitable for them (or by integrating them into a legal trade framework); yet they have spent so many decades saying exactly the opposite that they are shit scared to take any steps in that direction!

Very recently, there have been a few murmurs from government drug advisors, retired politicians and the like, to that effect, here in the UK. Hopefully, that is the start of a snowball rolling towards sense! But I am not holding my breath... :tea:

That may be right for older politicians who actually have spent years saying "drugs are evil" or whatever, but they could always say they were wrong and have changed their minds. Besides that, what about politicians who haven't been spinning the "evils of drug" yarn for decades. Take obama for example, whats his issue? What of any newer politicians? It seems like this has become somewhat of a non issue with actual citizens. Everyone (of course not 100%) but the majority of people (in canada anyway) would agree that marijuana should be legal. Politicians in our last election wouldn't touch it. It's such an immense issue, but it's still not brought up. The elephant in the room for government leaders and bureaucrats.

If you smoke pot -even a little bit- you could end up winning Olympic gold, being a rock/pop/reggae/rap star, or becoming the President of the United States. Clearly we must not take a chance on giving the appearance of anything approaching approval of this dangerous substance.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

We certainly don't want anybody doing any kind of recreational drugs doing anything important, like serving in the military or in law enforcement or teaching. The dangers of such drugs have been expounded at many a three martini lunch.
