Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael
Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael
I'd never heard of this song (composed in 1927) before, but I came across a list of the Top 100 songs of the century on Radio 2 and it came in at Number 2.
So I played it and it is just perfection in every way.
Magnetic, masterful songwriting.

Well, Rod Stewart, Katie Mehueleiehehea, Michael Bubble and Ringo Starr have covered it, so it's escaped under my radar.Bella Fortuna wrote:You've never heard of it?!I'm very surprised!

Who compiled this top 100 list?
There is no way a list compiled by listener poll or music artists would've had that at no. 2. Which person got to decide for us that that was the 2nd best song of last century? Is there linkage to the list?

Re: Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael
I notice the list is from '99 so much of the people who took part would be dead now

He was a wonderful composer. Exquisitely complex for what it is. The chord changes must be a nightmare to play!
Re: Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael
Sounds like any other song from that period to me. I don't see what makes it stand out

The beauty to me is in the melody. He isn't the best interpreter of this song despite being the composer (in my opinion). Try this:Animavore wrote:Sounds like any other song from that period to me. I don't see what makes it stand out
