Ageing rock stars: hope I die before I get old?
Ringo Starr is just about to go on tour at the age of 70. Now I am certainly no ageist - especially given I just hit 60 myself, but I simply can't compute the Who in My Generation singing the line 'hope I die before I get old', and the likes of Ringo still prancing around up there singing With a Little Help from my Friends!

I don't care about what you old people do

Anything is better than this dreadful young people's music...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!
And my gin!

That's fine. We've used up all the planet's stuff anyway. Good luck with what's left!normal wrote:I don't care about what you old people do

Ringo actually does his own songs.
It's almost as bad as Ozzy Osborne's solo stuff.

Since when has being a performing musician been the preserve of the young?

The youngest member of the Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood, is 63. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are 67 and Charlie Watts is 69. I wish they had rested on their laurels since 1971 or 1972. Not because of their age, though. John Mayall is 77 and performing well still.

Neil Young still rocks, also.

Cat Stevens must be getting on too. A couple of years ago I heard a re-recording of one of his old songs, and was very impressed. It was actually better than the original.

I was just thinking about this subject, having watched the biopic of The Runaways last night, and seeing what's become of the band members over time...

Close enough, but what does that have to do with aging pop musicians who refuse to exit stage left once their age exceeds 30 or whatever arbitrary number is deemed proper?normal wrote:Isn't he called Yussuf Bin Allah these days?Seraph wrote:Young by name...Animavore wrote:Neil Young still rocks, also.
