Britain and immigrants
Britain and immigrants
What's your opinion on this? Obviously, we have a lot of immigrants here, primary since we granted EU states free access and movement to Britain. Eastern European accents used to be a very rare sound to hear on the street, but now it's a pretty common occurrence. There's a lot of anti-Polish vitriol in my own town, and it has developed into a form of casual xenophobia. I'm not one of the 'racists', as I really don't care. I know Poles, Lithuanians and even Serbs; all of which are normal, engaging individuals. It's the Chinese International students which keep to themselves, and rarely interact with the 'natives'. I've noticed the same thing with the Asian kid minority, all of which are British, but remain segregant from everyone else.
It doesn't happen with the black kids, just them; I really don't know why this insist on keeping in isolated and small groups from everyone else. It's a bit fucking racial.
But yeah, hi.

I'm all for it. I don't think governments should have the right to restrict where a person can live and work just because of where they were born. As for the "deluge" of Eastern Europeans that right-wingers are so worried about... we are also free to go an work there or any other part of the EU, and many people from here do.

Re: Britain and immigrants
Anyone who wants to come to this country, is prepared to obey the law and seek work is fine by me. In fact anyone who is prepared to cross countries and continents is likely to work a lot harder than some of the natives

I don't think that's comparable though: do you know how awful British people are with other languages?Pappa wrote:I'm all for it. Well, I want to get in to New Zealand and the bar is set pretty high with regard to qualifications and everything, and that's a country with a tiny population. Britain is seriously crowded, but it seems quite easy to get in to. Perhaps the government should be more selective with who it lets in.Pappa wrote:I'm all for it. It's not easy to get into for anyone outside the EU (unless you're a student and can pay your way).devogue wrote:Well, I want to get in to New Zealand and the bar is set pretty high with regard to qualifications and everything, and that's a country with a tiny population. Try reading up on how Canada treated the Chinese while (and after) they provided the labour to build the country's railroads. Maybe then you'll understand why they don't trust the white bastards. A little Native history wouldn't hurt the cause, either.Devogay wrote:It's the Chinese International students which keep to themselves, and rarely interact with the 'natives'....]It's a bit fucking racial.

I don't think humans should be allowed to move more than forty miles outside of their place birth. With each generation there will be drift however this will be gradual and contain inter-ethnic strife. I'm afraid the current experiment in dispersed populations is a recipe for global cultural and social disaster should the 'food trough' be taken away. With the cheap oil almost gone it will be interesting to observe how the survivors manage, or do not manage.

I'm aware that Serbia is not in the EU.

Serbs are OK. They don't like Muslims obviously but you can depend on their character otherwise.Berthold wrote:You think there's someting very special about them?Devogay wrote:I know Poles, Lithuanians and even Serbs; all of which are normal, engaging individuals.![]()

Well, if they hadn't chased the Irish off their lands and denied them the means to make a living, maybe they wouldn't have had to go east?.Morticia. wrote:Devogay wrote:What's your opinion on this? and they didn't have to let all that rabble from the former colonies come too after 1947.
Plus, last time I checked, the UK is not a schengen state and they have a right to keep their own borders and dumping on the rest of the EU for what they let in is blatantly unfair...
then again, them poms invented fair play, meaning: I'm the wookie, you let me win or else.
