nice article, though I'm sure there are the same coming from more conventional catholics or protestants floating around, or are mormons so far out that one of them even noticing the kind of fairyland the systme would make him believe he lives in is already an above average feat of thinking?

Non-Mormons do silly things too of course, and as noted above, ignorance with regard to science is far from a uniquely Mormon problem. However, Mormon beliefs create one of the many worldviews that encourage some kinds of science to be denied. And this should be expected to encourage the denial of science in other similar situations, such as where emotional experience (including all kinds of greed and fear) or social trends conflict with the best advice science has to offer.
I always thought of Mormons as pretty well educated, so it is somewhat selective what science they have to reject.
