UK Uncut accuses police of politically motivated arrests
The Met has charged 138 people – practically the movement's entire leadership – with aggravated trespass after a UK Uncut occupation of Fortnum and Mason in central London during the anti-cuts march.
-
The group is baffled as to why Scotland Yard, which rejects claims of politically motivated policing, decided to charge its members, yet in previous peaceful occupations officers took no action. Video evidence reveals a senior officer assuring protesters on the day that they would not be detained upon leaving the store.

Re: march for the alternative, anti-cuts protest
Nothing like good old fashion conservative fear mongering. Any unrest there is, and what little that is correlation to the crimes brought against the working class and poor by a ruling class of the elite, is from the fact the rich have pilfered billions of dollars from the world economy and hijacked democracy for corporate interests while convincing the public they paid too high of taxes whilst paying none at all and highering no more workers in favor of awarding themselves grotesque bonuses.Seth wrote: Ah yes, Marxist revolutionary rhetoric that will end up getting people killed, and those who survive the anarchy will begin to starve to death because every Marxist wants something for nothing. Evidently you learned nothing from the Soviet Union or Cuba.
The problem with the UK is that it's been socialist for too long, and the OPM has run out, and now the socialist chickens are coming home to roost in masse, and the proletariat is beginning to see the ultimate and inevitable course of socialism: Chaos, anarchy, death, destruction, starvation, privation and dissolution of civilization.
People who think socialism is a good idea ought to get it, good and hard.
Enjoy!
The Soviet Union and Cuba, you say? You are refering to communist military dictatorships, you know, not socialist democracies.
Selfishness and the greed of capitalism has corroded the core value of equality in the Western world. It is time to take back the reward for the work we do, build a strong middle class, and refuse that the government continues to go agains the will of the majority.
If you think it will happen violently, you are wrong, social change will not and can not be brought about by force and bloodshed, but through nonviolent means and tactics of civil disobediance - together we can prove that the system of governance is meant to act for the people and by the people and that without the majority the system can not operate.
Re: march for the alternative, anti-cuts protest
Quite exactly why a progressives should not fall to fatalism. Even the police are siding with protesters lately.Psychoserenity wrote:There are apparently going to be quite a lot of off-duty police officers openly joining in with this protest - and a whole load of lawyers protesting the proposed cuts to civil legal aid - so if there is trouble the results could be interesting to say the least.Feck wrote:The Government can happily ignore a peaceful protest ,they would love it to get out of hand ,they WILL have undercover people there to encourage it to get nasty . police tactics will be to annoy and frustrate you to that end .
Yes and it is always the private sector working class who are last to join in protests because they are the most liable to do so. They are subject to dictatorship in the workplace and have no real right to speak their minds to their employers. Indeed it are those people who work the hardest for the least, but the rich want to convince them not to blame the ruling class but the public sector who, because of the collective bargaining rights, can manage to make a decent living for themselves. I'm excited yet cynical for the Supreme Courts ruling on discrimination against women in the Wal*Mart workplace in light of 'Citizen's United'..Morticia. wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^ THISdevogue wrote:I should also say that the powers that be in the West have shackled people by making it clear that even the smallest infraction that gets you a criminal record will fuck your life up forever if you want to take part in their shoddy game for a few crumbs to keep you and your family going.

that is why it is always the young without children and those without anything to lose get involved in any kind of grass roots direct action
Ha. Perhaps you are blind to the fact it is because of capitalist greed that we have an overwhelmed welfare state? Perhaps if the rich would hire some people with all the billions of dollars they do not pay in taxes (uh, 'trickle down' like golden piss from rivers of the gated community of rich man heaven) then we wouldn't have to spend so much on food stamps and all else such. Look, we aren't broke. We've been robbed. You can pretend like the bankers, politicians, and corporate CEOs aren't corrupted, but they are. The very philosophy of 'private interest' is all in the name. All businesses big and small are determined to make the most money while spending the least. So, sure, capitalism and the free market would be great if it were actually based on equal opportunity, but it isn't - and even you admit that the free market is a falsehood. Our politicians have been bought out. If we could convince the richest people to pay their fair share and dig us out of the grave they put us in, well then by all means - praise Reagan in Heaven hallelujah! Free at Last, Free at Last! Good Gods of Money, we're free at last!Seth wrote:Yup. That's what happens when socialists squander the wealth of society on entitlement programs and destroy the ability of the economy to produce more wealth in order to achieve "social justice." The cuts regime really kicks in with the new financial year on 1st April. That is when the free nurseries and libraries shut, when projects which keeps kids of the streets and youth crime a bit lower shut, when mental health charities for people who otherwise will find themselves sleeping rough lose their budgets, when the social workers lose their jobs, when preventative services supporting parents before they end up with their kids in the care system lose their funding. It is when your rubbish collection is likely to be reduced and when the pot holes in the roads will start staying there a few months longer before they are filled.
Good luck making it happen.
So continue on. Pretend as if demanding equality and fair opportunity is the worst kind of Marxism, but if the filthy rich won't play fair and treat the middle-lower class with the least shred of human dignity and respect - there is no reason to play their game. No reason to work hard for nothing, to toil for tyrants. Take away a man's rights and you make him a slave. We've already abolished slavery once, we can do it once more.
Our government has a resposibility to protect us from starvation, the rich do not.
Re: march for the alternative, anti-cuts protest
You have an overwhelmed economy because you have a welfare state. Capitalist "greed" is the only thing that's propped up the welfare state for as long as it has. Without Capitalist "greed" the UK welfare state would have collapsed the economy decades ago. Without Capitalism, there is no wealth created, and thus no wealth to tax, and thus nothing to redistribute to the dependent class. You seem to be laboring under the idiotic idea that socialism, of any ilk, creates wealth. It doesn't. It consumes wealth. Somebody's got to actually invest the capital to create the wealth which socialists then seek to redistribute to the dependent class. Without that essential component of the economy, it all falls down very quickly. It's the principle of "Other People's Money" that Margaret Thatcher so wisely pointed out. Socialism is great, till it runs out of other people's money to spend.Gonzo wrote:Ha. Perhaps you are blind to the fact it is because of capitalist greed that we have an overwhelmed welfare state?Seth wrote:

Why should they if the fruits of their labor are to be siphoned off to serve the needs of the dependent class?Perhaps if the rich would hire some people with all the billions of dollars they do not pay in taxes (uh, 'trickle down' like golden piss from rivers of the gated community of rich man heaven) then we wouldn't have to spend so much on food stamps and all else such.
Look, we aren't broke. We've been robbed.
This is the new Marxist Progressive mantra straight from the mouth of Karl Marx himself. It's pure, undiluted Marxist class warfare absolutely no different than it was when Marx published the Communist Manifesto. And it's a idiotic and wrong today as it was then.
You haven't been robbed, you've idled your way into economic ruin. Marxists and socialists want something for nothing, and they think that because the rich CONTROL great wealth (they don't keep it under their beds, they are constantly recirculating it in the economy if for no other reason than that they like to live an opulent lifestyle that requires the direct and indirect employment of thousands just to serve their desires, for which they pay handsomely) that it ought to be stripped from them and given to the dependent class. Well, the truth is the dependent class has done nothing by way of labor which would justify redistribution of wealth to them. In fact, in most cases, they themselves produce little or nothing, and when they do, they pay nothing in taxes either.
And the real truth is that the wealthy already pay the vast majority of tax revenues collected both in the US and in the UK. I don't have the figures for the UK, but in the US, the top 1 percent of taxpayers in the US pay just less than 40 percent of the taxes. The top 50 percent of taxpayers pay 93 percent of revenues, and the bottom 50 percent pay NOTHING WHATEVER by way of income tax.
So to say that you've been "robbed" is just utter nonsense. The dependent class simply fail to produce wealth because they insist that they are entitled to government largess and are unwilling to contribute to the economy by taking care of themselves, expecting others to labor for their benefit. But why should the wealthy pay more than they already do? They don't owe the dependent class anything.
The fastest way for the wealthy to break the stranglehold of socialism is simply to refuse to invest their capital in the economy. That's what's happening in the US, the wealthy, and large corporations, facing uncertainty and the potential for confiscatory socialist seizure of their profits, are withholding their cash and are refusing to invest their investment capital in expanding their businesses and hiring employees until the regulatory and tax environment favors their obligation to produce profits for their shareholders. And quite rightly so. Nobody's required to pour money down the rathole of dependent class entitlements.
Some are, some aren't.
You can pretend like the bankers, politicians, and corporate CEOs aren't corrupted, but they are.
Indeed. It's the concept that makes economies and nations work properly, it's the principle of "private property."The very philosophy of 'private interest' is all in the name.
Yup. What would you have them do, make the least money while spending the most? That's financial suicide. All businesses big and small are determined to make the most money while spending the least.
Marxist revisionism. What you Marxists mean by "equal opportunity" is actually "equality of outcomes." It's a mendacious and deliberate misuse of language intended to demonize the notion of private property and imply that unless everyone is economically equal at all times, it's "unfair" and denies "equal opportunity" to everyone. But Marxists never address the consequences of enforced economic equality because while they lie about "equal opportunity" when they mean "equality of outcomes," they know full well that equality of economic outcomes never, ever actually works in the long run. It actually results in stagnation, decay, recession, depression, economic collapse, starvation, disorder, chaos, murder, genocide and authoritarian repression as the "socialist" government strives to maintain power and control and some semblance of order as the starving proletariat rises up against the corrupt socialist elite in anger of the broken promises of Marxism. So, sure, capitalism and the free market would be great if it were actually based on equal opportunity, but it isn't - and even you admit that the free market is a falsehood.
If you weren't such a cheap bastard, you could buy your own politicians, now couldn't you?Our politicians have been bought out.
The rich are already paying far more than their "fair share." They are in fact paying the vast majority of the money that the dependent class freeloaders get handed by the government. But it's never enough for Marxist swine, who always want more, and mostly just want more power and control for themselves, so that they can strip the treasury for their own benefit. If we could convince the richest people to pay their fair share and dig us out of the grave they put us in, well then by all means - praise Reagan in Heaven hallelujah! Free at Last, Free at Last! Good Gods of Money, we're free at last!
Marxist hyperbolic propaganda without even a shred of truth to it. Nobody in the U.S. is starving. Even the poorest of the poor enjoy a lifestyle that radically exceeds the living standard of the truly destitute in other nations, where people actually do starve. And that's not because government is handing out money to the dependent class, it's because capitalism and the free markets have raised the standard of living across the board for Americans, and Britons too, something which Marxism can never do.Good luck making it happen.

Re: march for the alternative, anti-cuts protest
Bit like farmers (cattle herders in the US?) who drain more money of the state in subsidies than the unemployed could ever dream of, if we let them all go bust and sign on to the welfare it would save a fortune keeping the dependent classses going. Not to mention it would reduce the cost of food. You haven't been robbed, you've idled your way into economic ruin. Marxists and socialists want something for nothing
I'm generally a fan of the EU but the Common Agriculture Policy along with the US equivalent is just sucking money from the poor to give to the rich (dependent classes) and needs to go
Farmers for libertarianism is a bit like investment bankers for marxist revolution, unless they are somehow under cover agents trying to bring down the system from within they are in the wrong job

This, of course, is based on the entirely false presumption that all farmers ask for or accept government largess.MrJonno wrote:Bit like farmers (cattle herders in the US?) who drain more money of the state in subsidies than the unemployed could ever dream of, if we let them all go bust and sign on to the welfare it would save a fortune keeping the dependent classses going. Soviet Union, Communist China, Kampuchea, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Greece, Spain, Portugal, France, UK, ...just pick any socialist society where the OPM has run out, or is running out, and you'll find increasingly authoritarian government action as the elites in government attempt to maintain power and control and put down civil unrest caused by the failure of the socialist government to provide the largess it promised in perpetuity.AnInconvenientScotsman wrote:Examples?Seth wrote:Socialist democracies inevitably become communist military dictatorships when the OPM runs out and starvation and social unrest loom.Gonzo wrote: The Soviet Union and Cuba, you say?
