Re: Only in America!
I believe it's a Finnish Lahti L-39 20mm antitank rifle from WWII. In the US, it's a Class III registered destructive device. Hard to get ammo for. Practically impossible to get explosive penetrator rounds for. Many remaining examples have been rechambered to .50 BMG due to unavailability of 20mm ammunition, which, because it's larger than .50 inches, requires that EACH ROUND be registered as a destructive device. Costs $200 per round to register.Svartalf wrote:what's that? beside a big antimateriel rifle, likely in .50cal.Gawdzilla wrote:
With conversion to .50 BMG, ammo is widely available, including APIT (Armor piercing incendiary tracer) that will penetrate anything in the US arsenal short of a main battle tank or a Stryker. No registration of ammunition is required.
It's an extremely heavy and unwieldly antimaterial rifle today, and is really only of value as a collector's item. Rifles firing the .50 BMG round of modern design and which are much smaller, lighter and more accurate, like the Barrett M-85 A2 and a large number of bolt-action rifles in .50 BMG are available on the market, and they are not Class III weapons and do not require any registration.

Indeed. I've never seen a rabbit-wrangler not use a bridle before saddling. Fuckers can bite and kick like a bitch too...Gallstones wrote:Gawdzilla wrote:

Re: Only in America!
No, not at all "only in America", but it did happen in the US, and it is not worth a separate thread: Since Salem, witches don't get burnt any more. They just get fired.
Highlight of the article: "The assistant director told her he was investigating a threat of workplace violence. He said that her former mentor in on-the-job training, officer Mary Bagnoli, reported that she was afraid of Smith because she was a witch who practiced witchcraft. She accused Smith of following her on the highway one snowy evening after work and casting a spell on the heater of her car, causing it not to work."
