Where Are The Martyrs?

Post by egbert » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:44 am

According to religion, one the greatest feats a believer can achieve is that of martyrdom, a death that is most pleasing to God.
So, where are the modern day martyrs? We currently have a tremendous need for some in the Japan Nuclear tragedy. The workers there are under incredible stress, and risking high radiation doses. Given the Catholic exaltation of martyrs, one should expect legions of priests and nuns lining up to assist in the efforts to bring the reactors under control, and happily and joyfully accepting lethal radiation doses in their valiant sacrifice to achieve martyrdom.

Where are they?

The simplest questions are always the best, although it's not so much martyrdom, which is a religious conceit, as this:
1 John 3:16

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
That's one of the most famous and revered passages in the New Testament, so there should be hordes of Christians wading in to Fukushima.

Can't, "Merkin Idol" is on tonight. Beside, they don't let sofas on airplanes anymore, so the fundies would have to actually get up.

What's especially frustrating is that as believers they can go in to Fukushima, shovel up the nuclear material, and then come out and get healed by the grace of God through prayer or a meeting with Benny Hinn. So they can actually sort this catastrophe out and they don't even have to die. Their selfishness knows no bounds, and no, I won't have Christians calling me silly, because I have just described a situation that millions and millions of them buy in to.

It would be fun to watch them try. The afters would be worth a reality tv show.

Having been in a spent fuel bay, allow me to correct you - it's a BLUE glow, and it's very pretty...
