Tory time - axing funding for volunteer support.

Post by floppit » Tue Mar 08, 2011 8:57 am

We need your help

Today we have learnt that we will no longer receive vital funding from the Office for Civil Society (OCS).
Our latest funding application to the OCS, which covers our core running costs, has been rejected at the first stage.
This is a devastating blow for TimeBank which has been living and breathing the government’s vision for a Big Society for the past ten years. Since our inception in 2000, we have helped and encouraged 300,000 people into volunteering – that fills Wembley Stadium three times.
We are mystified at the government’s decision to no longer support our work. As well as offering help and advice to volunteers, we have also been responsible for some ground breaking volunteering projects which have addressed key social issues such as refugee integration, mental health and social exclusion.
We are urging all our supporters to save our charity which we will present to Number 10. If we receive 100,000 signatures our case will be debated in parliament. Please help TODAY and tell anyone else who might want to support us. Your 'signature' could help to reverse this funding decision from the government. Support us by:
- Email saveus@timebank.org.uk - just put your full name in the subject box - we'll collect all your names and take them to Number 10
- Tweet your support through @timebank
- Show your support through Facebook
- Donate to help us make volunteering part of the fabric of everyday life.
- Tell your friends - get them to support us too.
Thanks for your support - we really do appreciate it, now more than ever.

I volunteered to befriend refugees through this group. They actually train and offer help to volunteers which in the long run enables them to work much more independently and effectively. It also attracts volunteers genuinely interested in gaining and using new skills, not just important to what they end up doing for charity but also in terms of their own development/eventual higher taxes likely to be paid.

This is a stupid decision, 100,000 emails and it gets debated in parliament.
"Whatever it is, it spits and it goes 'WAAARGHHHHHHHH' - that's probably enough to suggest you shouldn't argue with it." Mousy.

The entire cuts program is antithetical to the 'Big Society', as I understand Cameron's vague 'vision'.
When I feel sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead.
True story.
SUIT UP!

Dear good all seeing being; my way or the highway Yahweh,

I thank your holy might, for making me both rich and white"

The only explanation that makes sense is The Big Society is actually The Big Lie in practice and a smokescreen/cover for the reality of cuts galore. As Marx said...Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? :coffee:

Damn, I had a suspicious feeling that Dave and George weren't really into third way socialism.

In my head I just heard "M.C. Cameron" singing:

Tory Time! Can't fund this!

:hehe:
