big surprise there...what kind of speech was that? :fp:
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Thank you for all the kind support over the years. I see now that my services are no longer wanted nor required, and it is time for me to step down and let someone else have a go at running the country. NOT!!!!!

I don't think you were the only one. And he made it on a Thursday evening, just before Friday prayers, when things will really be hectic. Not great timing.

I wonder what happened behind the scenes? :eddy:

what did he say about removing some parts of the constitution? I'm thinking he's playing a game - trying to get the crowd going so he can send the troops in a heavy-hand fashion?

I haven't a clue what most of it was about, only that the crowd weren't happy. I hope it doesn't get nasty.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Anybody want to place bets on when the crowd will finally decide to move from the square to the Presidential palace and overthrow Hosni, Louis XVI-style? I think by the time that happens, the army won't interfere.

Most analysts don't think the army is on Mubarek's side. By that interpretation, Mubarek is basically daring the army to stage a coup, I guess.

I think he only needs a control structure. The opinions of the troops on the ground are unimportant if he has a control structure.

Well, the army is now guarding the Presidential palace. Wonder how long before one of them "accidentally" leaves the gate unlocked?

Mubarak could end up like Ceausescu if he's not careful.
