Our Hero was pleased that it hadn't tumbled. He knew how long it would take to start a serious wobble, probably "one mississippi, two..." kind of timing, but he knew.M wrote:Exactly what was intended. I think I liked it (bit pissed). I thought they left it ambiguous. It seemed that in the split second before the cut away, it was starting to topple. Could have been my imagination though. Or, it was exactly what was intended.
When it finished, Mark said "OK, put the real telly back on now." I replied "But this is the real telly" and he said "Of course. That was a lovely holiday we went on." etc, etc.
Happy days!

Re: Inception
My memory of seeing it in the cinema was that the movie cut just as the spinning top started to wobble. I went out thinking what a great way to end it. keep you guessing and talking about it afterwards. But then when I watched it on DVD the thing righted itself after the wobble. Were there multiple endings? I wonder if I saw one in the cinema and another one on DVD. The alternative explanation is, of course, that I was caught by surprise with the wobble and misremembered it righting itself afterwards. Either way, I think it would have been a more effective ending to cut just as it started to wobble.

Re: Inception
It was a cliche ending, keeping you guessing, WTF again? The characters were made of cardboard and the dream technologies on the otherside of implausible. Far too Americo-centric with violence being the only answer to conflict resolution and the overall movie just one big ego-trip for a dying empire in denial? Could have been so much more?rEvolutionist wrote:My memory of seeing it in the cinema was that the movie cut just as the spinning top started to wobble. Yes, and whilst relying on it, unfortunately didn't have the presence of mind to develop any acting skills for the inevitable eventuality that it would leave.Gawdzilla wrote:He is still trying to cash in on a baby face, one that begun to show a certain amount of wear.stripes4 wrote:Leonardo de Caprio sucks ass

Re: Inception
I wonder if they "orientaled" Leonardo up in that movie for a reason -- look at his eyebrows, eyes and goatee...kind of hint of a Japanese look to 'im - very subtle, but evident. Was that in some way because he actually WAS Saito?

Perhaps you ought not to stereotype by suggesting that it is somehow an American characteristic that "the only answer to conflict resolution" is violence. That isn't the case, and that attitude is a product of a Euro-centric superiority complex.
Also, regarding "dying empires in denial" - please - the US doesn't have a fucking "Empire." That was a European gig, and the Euros made a fucking art form of it. Now they just like to pontificate and moralize about others on the topic, while ignoring their own practice of keeping most of the world in chains for centuries.
But, please, by all means - give us your suggestion for a non-Americo-centric version of Inception?
Re: Inception
I enjoyed the film, but it was flawed. The characters were shallow and They should have done more with the dream concept.
One interesting thing they could have done is weird scene changes that don't surprise the characters. That happen in my dreams, at least.
There could perhaps have been some linking between dream levels, reflecting the deeper levels at higher levels.
The "street pop" and fold were technically clever but no more than bolt on effects. They had nothing to do with the plot.
It never really got dream-weird, which is surely a wasted opportunity.

I walked out of the theatre before the end of the movie, which I rarely do. I didn't care for it at all.
