Any and every religion claims that following its particular beliefs and principles is the only valid basis on which to live ones life, that goodness and virtue are the preserve of religiosity, and therefore to be without 'proper belief X' is to be without virtue and goodness - by definition immoral.

My point is not about churches arrogating power to set the standards of behaviour for individuals but about co-opting all the good of all society, all it's people and all good works .

It will be interesting to learn what actually happens. France is pretty secular these days, I suspect there may be some protests.

Most religious people I have met have a wrong understanding of religion. So, there seems to be a lot of that going around.
