Make-up lines for 8 year old girls?

We're a long way from the days of stoning a painted Jezebel, but I have to say, I'm old-fashioned enough to think 8 is too young to start wearing makeup, except maybe lip gloss and nail polish.

Why are lip gloss and nail polish better than, say, eye shadow and mascara?

Nothing wrong with it though, if shirts are made for 8 year olds that say "cum dumpster" on them so be it, no one is forcing anyone to buy them, same with make up. As long as a profit is made everything else is inconsequential.

Whether a profit is made is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if they lose money or make money. Yes, a t-shirt should not be prohibited for sale. A parent, however, should exercise control over what is worn.

It's personal opinion-- eye shadow and mascara tend to make a little girl look older than her years (check out photos of JonBenet Ramsay if you don't believe me.) They're easy to overdo, and they can look tarty really easily. Nail polish and lip gloss are still fun to play with, and less obvious, and lip gloss can serve the double purpose of preventing chapped lips.

My girls mostly do their 'make up' themselves. The glittery eye shadow usually ends up looking straight out of pantomime. Mascara would be just a terrible dark mess and a bitch to get off. They both mascaraed themselves last autumn at a friends house and I can't tell you the trauma of getting it off. They must've had about 8 layers on.

What about extra mini-condoms for 12-year olds? There was such a campaign last year in Switzerland.

There have been schools in the US that gave out condoms to anyone from 1st grade on.

Hey, I've heard of first graders complaining that the big boys got the water balloons but never being seen having fun with them and demanding they get some too.

I find nail polish very obvious and it wouldn't be one of the first things I'd let my daughter play with, but as you said, it's personal opinion. Of course, given it's personal opinion, making all of it available and letting the children or their parents make their own decisions seems like the most sensible approach.

Speaking of nail polish - or mascara - one advantage of having a kid's line would be that they could make it much easier to remove, since staying on for an entire evening of sweaty partying wouldn't be as necessary.

I never wear make-up, cannot stand the sticky stuff on my skin, absolutely don't see why anyone should wear it, let alone children.

Yeah, I never said Wal-mart shouldn't be allowed to sell the stuff-- just that I don't think much of people buying it. Making a kid's line easier to remove is actually a great idea-- might not be a bad idea to make the stuff non-toxic to eat, too-- kids being what they are.
