But back to the famous atheists, I kind of don't care for new atheism. I liked old atheism, that of Joseph McCabe. Hitchens and Harris have some basic ideas right but do not represent me. The God Delusion was a bit monotonous. I was an atheist before I read it so it was a little obvious. Invisible friend was nice to read about. Other than that, I do not remember much. I got the book at Borders at a table of buy 2 get 3rd free. I do not remember if I read the other two books either, but it was not much money spent.

Except of course that, official party stance notwithstanding, it's likely that most Chinese are not so atheist as that ... if sects like the Falunggong got big enough that their repression made lines across the world, I guess that more traditional religions, like ancestor worship and the rest of Taoism, not to mention confucianism (that treats Confucius like God, even if it doesn't say so much because that would cast aspersions on the August Personage of Jade and others native born deities), or Chinese Buddhism where the Buddhas and Boddhisattvas are treated very much like standard polytheistic deities, are still quite alive and well, and that a majority of the Chinese pay them at least lip service.

Richard shits me. I can't quite work out why, but he does. Admire his work and commitment to the cause and all that stuff but there's something insufferable about the man. I wouldn't want to get on the piss with him.

I don't think he gives much of a shit so long as he gets his agenda and his name plastered all over the place.

What is his agenda? And why would he care to have his name plastered everywhere? What makes you think he isn't sincere?

His agenda is to add a knighthood to his dozen or so honorary doctorates, and that is one reason why he cares to have his name plastered everywhere. I don't know if anyone thinks he is insincere about any of it.
