Beeb say sorry for Stephen Fry A-bomb quip

The BBC and Talkback Thames have apologised for Stephen Fry's description of double A-bomb survivor Tsutomu Yamaguchi as "the unluckiest man in the world".

The QI presenter - himself described by Julie Burchill as "a stupid person's idea of a clever person" - offended delicate Japanese sensiblities during a December outing of the programme.

Yamaguchi, who died last year aged 93, survived the Hiroshima bombing in August 1945, only to find himself in Nagasaki three days later.

Fry's quip prompted the Japanese embassy to protest to the BBC. According to the Telegraph, a Corporation spokesman offered: "QI never sets out to cause offence with any of the people or subjects it covers.

"However on this occasion, given the sensitivity of the subject matter for Japanese viewers, we understand why they did not feel it appropriate for inclusion in the programme."

The Register article comments are distinctly unsympathetic to the BBC ruling. I wonder why... http://forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/1 ... y_apology/

If anything, I would have said he was the luckiest man in the world ... nuked twice, but survived to live a long life.

So touchy, those Nips. :tea:

This is typical of the Japanese establishment's trying to rewrite history.
They don't even teach their kids about the atrocities carried out by their forbears.
Or how craven and cowardly their "emperor" was, in sending thousands to their deaths in kamikaze planes, and urging his soldiers never to be taken alive, but was a quivering jelly when it came to topping HIMSELF.

Fuck the japs, who cares what they think? They brought the atom bombs on themselves by refusing to accept that they had lost the war. They even needed a second nuke to convince them. Nagasaki was entirely their own responsibility.

And fuck the americans for ignoring justice after the surrender. Hirohito should have got the same treatment as Musselini, strung up from the nearest lamp post.

And fuck the BBC for apologising. Unbelieveable.

haha typical of more than the Japanese establishment.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Based on recent events, their understanding of off-side seems to be better than certain men's awareness of whether the bloody microphone is switched off or not.

I can't believe how those commentators could be so sexist about that female assistant referee. It was really out of order.
Especially as she is well-fit, with a nice ass and great tits. What would they rather look at, her, or some big hairy bloke?
I think they must be a bit gay.

Lets be honest, it was SHOCKING. Besides, this gives Sky an opportunity to hire some female pundits, for balance.
Preferably ones with big tits.
