I owned a consulting company in Dallas and I hired this guy (see link below) as my COO. When I dissolved the partnership (due to my divorce), he re-branded the company with a new name and carried on selling to my clients and developing relationships with new ones.
Anyhoo, it appears that he's used this vehicle (allegedly) to defraud investors of $20 million with a pump and dump share scheme.
My judgment of good character could perhaps be questioned

To be fair, another guy I hired for the executive team turned out to be a thief and an alcoholic. He stole a bunch of cash from the company bank account when pissed up one day.
