That would, of course, be ignoring the fact that only 3 in 10 adult Americans own guns. But, then again, Europe has always been fairly insular, and just thinks everything over in the US is Dodge City in a John Wayne movie, with gunfights in the streets every day. If you folks aren't subjugating the world, stealing priceless art and resources, indenturing local populaces into servitude, and creating empires on which the sun doesn't set (a la, England, France, Holland, Span, Portugal...), then you're looking down your self-righteous noses at everyone else....

We never had an empire - our country is the same size as it was in 1959.

When we conquered half of Europe, we gave it all back. When we conquered nearly the whole of the Japanese Empire, we just gave it all back.

Ya gotta love when a country that put 13 colonies and the dominion of Canada in the Western Hemisphere, not to mention a bevy of island holdings, together with 1/2 of Africa and 1/2 of non-Russian Asia, is going to lecture someone else on "empires..."
